Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Half of it was okay. Half of it was not. And none of it really stuck with me. I'm not sure I could tell you a single thing that happens. Maybe Val Kilmer is in it? Is he? Al Pacino probably yells. Does DeNiro shoot someone? Who knows.

i found it overrated a few years ago when i saw it for the first time...i've had it recorded on dvr for at least a year and keep meaning to re-watch it

I should revisit all of Mann's films that I've seen at some point. People sure do love him. I'm apparently missing something.

finished all the miyazaki full length features and figured i'd rank 'em:

1.spirited away - love pretty much everything about this..just a wonderful, surreal, sometimes frightening, sometimes delightful world he created
2. my neighbor totoro - i love the imagination yet simplicity of this movie...kind of a fantasy "slice of life" type work...it looks fantastic, even for the 80's
3. porco rosso - a wonderful blend of comedy, adventure, romance, political intrigue...i'm pretty sure i had a smile on my face the whole time, and not that it needed to be but i wished it were longer...love the noir-esque porco character
4. princess mononoke - i wish i had seen the subtitled japanese version of this, because the english dub is distracting at times...overall a really great epic type film...the message boarders on being a little heavy handed at times, but still really well done
5. the wind rises - just a gorgeous film...definitely his most adult work and i doubt younger kids would enjoy it much
6. nausicaa of the valley of the wind - i saw it after princess mononoke so i couldn't but feel like it was a bit of a forerunner for it, but it's a very good film on it's own and nausicaa is a wonderful heroine
7. howl's moving castle - this looks fantastic, but it felt a bit jumbled at times...i'm not sure how i feel about the howl character and his romance with sophie
8. ponyo - the ponyo/sosuke relationship is totez adorbz, but the plot is a bit weak...still really enjoyed it though
9. castle in the sky - this is 3/4th's of a really good movie, but is ultimately bogged down by too many similar action scenes and is just too long
10. kiki's delivery service - this one just didn't click with me like his others...nothing inherently wrong with it, i just don't see myself longing to watch it down the road
11. the castle of cagliostro - it's fun, but easily his least ambitious

Spirited Away, Howl's, Porco, Kiki, Totoro and Mononoke I remember as being all good. Castle was a bit off.
