Started 'The Big Short', but started it late and got too tired to finish it. I got about 30min left, and overall I am enjoying it. The subject matter is interesting, and I used to be in that world (worked at Freddie Mac), but the delivery is a little off. I can't quite describe it, but something is taking me out of the movie. Maybe it's the 3 intertwined but separate stories going on, maybe I was just too tired, I don't know.

Do you guys regularly watch movies with subtitles on? I feel like I have to sometimes if the baby is sleeping or something, and I worry (probably too much) that it's "taking away from my experience."

I re-watched "Synecdoche, New York" for the first time since I saw it release weekend 8 years ago today, and it was still great. The passage of time and life and all that shit made me enjoy it more, I think.

Growing up, everything on TV was subtitled. Even after I learned English I'd read the subtitles, just 'cause I was so used to having them there. This is why I never understood Americans griping about having to read subtitles on foreign films, I'm so used to them.

Anyway, I don't really turn English subtitles on, unless I'm watching something with strong regional dialects.

I use subtitles quite a bit. Combination of low volume because of kids, poor hearing, and not minding subtitles at all. I feel like I get less distracted from the movie if I make myself read the words with my peripheral.
