sometimes I forget that I'm boiling water for eggs and 15 minutes later I hear the water boiling over the top of the pot..you can lay a wooden spoon over the top and it will no longer boil over

i like to save time in the kitchen like anybody else but I still enjoy shucking corn, peeling garlic etc...

On the topic of corn, if you put your ears of corn in a pot of cold water, then put the stove top on high, when the water begins to boil the corn will be perfectly cooked. I started using this method just a year or so ago and works great.

I just put them on the grill or in the over, husks and all, for about 30 minutes or so.

I agree this is a preferred method. But in the case of an early winters storm or rainy day when you still crave corn when it is available, the boiling pot method does the trick.
