The X-Men universe has not developed enough good characters to make enough of these people stand out, and nothing I've seen in the trailers about the new ones this time out.

This looks like a good example of the super hero fatigue problem. There are enough of these movies out now that you either better have a take we haven't seen a million times or characters that can carry you through an overly familiar story. Not sure they have either.
It's funny how the villains of the X-Men comic books have become the heroes of these movies.

I haven't watched the first one in a long, long time. But I think I'd definitely put First Class above it (having only seen First Class once).

The first one is the only memorably good one.

You could tell they ran out of money towards the end of the first one but I thought the Wolverine and Rogue stuff up in Canada was really good and the highlight of the series. Felt like the X-Men.

2 was okay, but overrated. 3 sucked. The little I saw of Origins looked hilariously awful. Wolverine was medicore. First Class sucked. DOFP sucked a lot.

X1 has "toad getting hit by lightning" line and X2 has the White House Nightcrawler scene. It's easy to see which is better.

I'd agree. Some of the best stuff in the series.

Yeah, but not better than Storm's terrible, unforgivable line about Toad.

X2
First Class
X-Men

Then there's a decent drop off after that. But I liked X-Men 3 and Origins: Wolverine probably more than most people.

Do you know what happens when a toad gets struck by lightning? The same thing that happens to everything else.
