1-54: Monty Got a Raw Deal vs. 9-9

This is tough. Monty is a lesser song on Automatic for the People--quite possibly its weakest song. And it's still so good.


9-9 is one of the best songs on Murmur--maybe the first indication (since it precedes west of the fields by 2 spots) that REM could write songs with a bit of danger. And it's pretty great. I love the phrase 'conversation fear'.


But if both of these came on and I had to pick one to listen to I'm probably going to choose Monty. That's how great Automatic is.
