Also in the past Lucas has said everyone in the universe can use the force to some degree, Han piloting the Falcon to get them out of trouble for example. Anyone 'in the zone' doing something they're good at is using the force and letting it guide them to some degree.

So, I just read the last four or five pages of this thread. I deserve a medal. At any rate, here's where I net out:
I think the fact that they made another Death Star is more egregious vs. Rey's sudden grasp of the force.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (2017)
Absolutely. The New Death Star is still probably my least favorite thing about the movie. That or R2's miraculous Deus Ex Machina.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (2017)
The R2d2 thing is the only thing that really kind of annoyed me. The new Death Star is cheesy and a bit lazy, but I can see why they needed a weapon like that to sort of reset the galaxy. I can imagine a number of better options, but I can live with it, since I really enjoyed all the scenes involved in its destruction.

Yoda clone: you're kind of a big deal.
Mary Sue: no way! I can't deal with being an invincible superbeing. Why do the worst things always happen to me? Imma go cry in the woods.
Mary Sue gets captured.
Mary Sue: oh noes. I'll just control this guy's mind. Being an invincible superbeing is such a curse!
Mary Sue beats up a cripple.
Mary Sue: now I finally accept who I am!
The end. What an epic arc!

It just occurred to me that I've seen 85 movies since I watched The Force Awakens, and literally every single one has been better than it.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (2017)
That's a lot of movies!
I've seen... maybe 10? And at least a few of them were better, for sure. Sisters was not better. An Honest Liar wasn't better. X-Men: Days of Future Past CERTAINLY wasn't better. The One I Love and Hello My Name is Doris are definitely both better.
I think I said it in my SCV segment but TFA is a good (or decent) movie but it's a great Star Wars movie. But, again, that bar isn't especially high for me. Empire is really the only Star Wars movie I'd call exceptional on a cinematic level.

Days of the Future Past is probably worse, yeah.durdencommatyler wrote:That's a lot of movies!

I still don't understand this whole "not a great movie, but a great Star Wars movie" logic. That makes no sense to me.
