<<all of this is based on capgeek.com's calculator>>

Short answer: Yes, they could keep both Horton & Rask, but it'd be tight.

Long answer: click here to see it, my explanation is spoiler'd
Spoiler: show
The B's are at $5.8M in space right now. Buying out/trading Peverley adds another $3.2M and LTIRing Savard adds another $4M to put them at $13M in cap space for 2013-2014. In an ideal situation here's what could happen (I don't pretend any of this is likely).

1) Rask - $5M - He's a RFA, so the qualifying offer would be $3.5M. He'll likely get more than that (King Henrik makes $6.8M as the top paid G) but negotiating from a position of strength as the Bs are could get them a more favorable deal (I wouldn't expect it, but it's possible with the cap going down around the league and the UFA G market being flooded with capable starters)

2) Horton - $5M - Working in the Bruins' favor is that he's got concussions in his recent history and will likely be coming off shoulder surgery. Working against them is his performance so far in this year's playoffs and the fact that he's still 28yo. A $1M raise seems preposterous to me, but this is not real life.

3) Khudobin - $.9M - He's unrestricted, but this year was his first in the NHL. I gave him a 100K raise.

4) Daugavins - $.69M - He's restricted, so this represents his qualifying offer.

5) Bartkowski - $.65M - He'd be the 7th d-man for the NHL club with Ference gone and Krug & Hamilton being #'s 5 & 6 on the depth chart.

6) Soderberg - $1M - He's got a one-way contract at this point, so I'm figuring him in as a 3rd-liner w/ Kelly & Daugavins

7) Khokhlachev - $.89M - The other part of the proposed Iginla trade, I've got him as the team's 10th forward.

Caron 22
Hamilton 20
McQuaid 25
Bartkowski 25
Krug 22
Rask 26

If they can keep the majority of the team together, they will be a cup contender for a few more years.
agreed, but since they both have expiring contracts after the cup, i think it's either/or for Horton & Rask. They might be able to keep them both if they can move Peverley, but i don't see that happening. so it's the guys you listed above, and:

Lucic 25
Paille 29
Boychuck 29

all under 30 years-old and most already have their name on the cup!
If you can only keep one, you keep Rask. With Horton requiring off-season shoulder surgery which may adversely affect his game, I would prefer to keep Peverley and depth at center. I'd rather the Bruins move Boychuck in order to keep Horton. I think Boychuck is vastly overpaid. Maybe they can get trade Seidenberg to open up spot for Hamilton and save money. It is scary what the Bruins have signed.
no, peverley needs to go. boychuck and seidenberg are crucial because ference is a free agent. you let him walk and keep krug and hamilton in the NHL next year to keep you at 6 d-men.
If they buy out Peverley and/or Kelly does that leave them with enough room to sign Rask and Horton? I wouldnt go crazy on Horton though, as great of a playoff performer as he is, he sleep walks through most of the season. He's a rich man's Michael Ryder.
the above list also left out Soderberg, Spooner, Knight and Khokhlachev...Spooner might be on the big club next year along with Soderberg, the other two probably need a full year each in Providence...seriously an embarrassment of riches for the Bruins right now...Daugavins might be gone at the end of this year

I don't see them buying out both Peverley and Kelly...I wouldn't be surprised if they traded McQuaid (selling high)

Horton is gone...just don't see them ponying up what some other GM will stupidly offer (I'm looking at you Glen Sather...though would a current Bruin, Horton especially, actually want to play for Vigneault?)

Rask has made himself stupid money with this playoff run...like top of the line goalie money if he wants it...could some team swoop in and make him a ridiculous offer sheet if he hasn't signed a new deal with the Bruins by the time free agency starts?
i agree with all of this, especially about Bergeron.

I'd hate to see McQuaid go.
Peverley and Daugavins not so much (although Daugy should be cheap).

yeah but I don't think Daugavins is too high on Claude's list right now...the only reason he's playing is because of Campbell's injury and Claude's reluctance to use a young completely inexperienced forward in that spot

McQuaid is a good player, but he's ultimately the type of player you can acquire for a 4th round pick at the trade deadline as a rental

I'm worried that Rask is in position to ask to be the highest paid goaltender in the league now, and there would be teams willing to make him that offer. It makes it harder to do things down the road when the currently signed guys are up again.

I didnt mind Daugavins playing before but after last night I would rather see any one of Soderberg, Pandolfo, or Caron over him. Everything he brought to the game last night was detrimental to their efforts.

Just looking at the shit on cap geek made me think of something. Is Chris Bourque hurt? Why isnt he around the team? I'm not advocating playing him or anything, he was terrible, but I just find it odd that he isnt on the taxi squad. If he was so bad that they dont even want him on the taxi squad, how the hell did he stick in the lineup as long as he did? Did he even play for Providence? I dont recall ever hearing his name again after they waived him.

Flyers have informed Danny Briere he'll be bought out. They have also informed Bryzgalov that he won't be bought out.

he was also made a free agent after he was waived earlier in the year.

i don't mind daugy right now or moving forward, but peverley is a tremendous waste of cap space. i do not agree about mcquaid's replace-ability.

as for tuukka, i think he'll sign for $6-6.5M, which means Horton's done as a Bruin.

Game Three was a record breaker in ratings, and these stats are interesting:

Following are the top five local markets for Game 3:
1. 1. Boston, 27.2
2. 2. Providence, 19.4
3. 3. Chicago, 16.8
4. 4. Buffalo, 5.1
5. 5. Hartford-New Haven, 3.2
