1-79: Flowers of Guatemala v Living Well is the Best Revenge

Flowers is a deceptively lovely song--its unassuming and easily passed over on a record full of immediate songs with obvious songs. Pagent is such a fast moving album it doesn't really give the listener time to fully appreciate this one.

But Living Well is the Best Revenge is one of my favorite REM songs of any era. Fantastic riff, ferocious energy, a bitterly inspired performance. It was the perfect counterpoint to Around the Sun, and a song no band that deep in their career has any business being able to create.
