I love Orange but damn, 100W is loud. Maybe I'm getting old but I am now in the push a small watt 10-20W amp and mic it. That said, I'm happy about going in on a small 10 by 12 practice room with my son so I can blast my 50W Traynor.

I have a fender twin reverb 2 :\ I believe its rated at 110 Watts. Lol. Good thing is it sounds beautiful at low volume as well. i've also taken out two of the tubes to help cut the power in half.

Guys, i am contemplating getting a fairly affordable acoustic guitar. All of mine have been hand me downs or give aways and I'd like something that sounds good, feels good, and plays well for under $400. Any ideas?

haha yeah 100W is absolutely excessive. Orange has a lot of 50 and 30 watt heads I was considering in the near future (OR50, TH30, AD30, Thunderverb 50, etc) but when I saw the deal on this and it was half or less of most of those, I had to bite. Fortunately it will switch down to a lower power setting. I've got an OR15 that i've been using with my band in a small room and with a 212 cab it's loud enough for sure, but with the close quarters and proximity to the amp i was getting a lot of feedback. Need something bigger that I don't have to push as hard.

I have a Seagull, a Canadian make that with thew exchange rate could be good value for you. It has a very full sound but not as easy to play as a Martin or Taylor. My son has a Taylor and I prefer the sound of my Seagull and makes switching to his acoustic or any electric a dream. I have this one, http://www.seagullguitars.com/seagull_s6_original.html.

Can anyone suggest some decent montiors? Budget up to $800. My son took mine with him to New Zealand, plugged them in without a voltage adaptor and they blew.

Besides getting a feel for how it plays, you need to just sit there and strum it to feel how it resonates and projects. How it feels in your lap. That sort of thing. It just seems to me that there is a lot more room for variation between instruments when it comes to acoustic guitars.

I'd agree with that, but I also feel thats how it goes with any instrument. If it doesn't feel right as soon as you pick it up and play it and you can't make a personal connection with it, chances are it could end up collecting dust in a closet.

Back in June I picked up a Martin DSR1 acoustic/electric. Its African sapele which has a great deep bass to it. My first and only acoustic was a Yamaha dreadnought back in the mid 90s. Finally had the chance to get a nice new one for recording.

Been sitting around and strumming this a bit lately. It's very cool and fun to relearn everything you used to know how to play back as a kid. Been falling in love with playing music all over again.

Got this in the mail yesterday, just in time for band practice. God damn am I every happy with it. It would have been worth every penny at full price. I was a little apprehensive at the lack of tone controls because i had a Dark Terror once and i found the shape knob on that amp to be a little lacking. Not so with this one. There is a crazy amount of range on that shape knob. Coupled with a little EQ in the loop and you can easily dial in any sound you could ever want with this.

Yeah those are really cool looking (and also adorable). Same with the Mini Rectifier. The Peavey mini 6505 is also really enticing and insanely affordable. I'm quite fond of this new trend in smaller wattage amplifiers.

Bought a Blackstar HT-STudio 20H amp and matching 2x12 cabinet for cheap. Twenty watt tube with electronic reverb and some tone shaping control knob thtat is supposed to let you move from a Marchell sound to a Vox sound. Nice leans and not monstrously loud. Doesn't do a great dirty past about an AC/DC like tone but that's what pedals are for.

Does mean I have to sell my Traynor YCV40WR. Has the greenback speaker. I love it but it's just too loud. You have to be in a big room to push it in any way.
