My Marshall (as shown on the last page) is insanely loud for using at home too but I couldn't bear to sell it, it just sounds too good. I should look into getting an attenuator.surfndestroy wrote:Bought a Blackstar HT-STudio 20H amp and matching 2x12 cabinet for cheap. Twenty watt tube with electronic reverb and some tone shaping control knob thtat is supposed to let you move from a Marchell sound to a Vox sound. Nice leans and not monstrously loud. Doesn't do a great dirty past about an AC/DC like tone but that's what pedals are for.

Does mean I have to sell my Traynor YCV40WR. Has the greenback speaker. I love it but it's just too loud. You have to be in a big room to push it in any way.

Yea, i actually do that. It helps.mf wrote:You guys ever consider pulling power tubes on those things to buy yourself a little headroom?

Its such an affordable guitar as it stands though and gets nothing but wonderful reviews.tragabigzanda wrote:Looks real nice, Strat. Haven't kept up with the latest trends, but as recently as 2010 I would suggest you st least consider saving a couple hundred and getting a Jap model. They play and sound every bit as good, and unless you're concerned about resale (or bragging rights), it's a better deal that allows you to put some extra money into guitar mods (better tuning pegs, a tail humbucker, etc).
Either way, I bet you won't regret a purchase.
Ive pulled 2 tubes from my amp. It was also modded with an additional master volume on the rear of the amp labeled "recording". I can dial it in on the front plate then turn it way down witht he master volume on the back without ruining much of the amps tone. Its been a wonderful friend of mine for years.tragabigzanda wrote:Twin Reverbs are wonderful amps if you are able to crank them really loud, or if you are pulling out a couple of tubes to get a little grit at a lower volume. Otherwise, based on the pics of your apartment that I see on Instagram, I would strongly urge you to consider a small, boutique amp. I have a single 8" '63 Kalamazoo that is like a darker Champ, and it's just lovely. There are a number of new companies making similar models now, and that is absolutely where I would put my money if my primary venue was my living room (plus they're excellent for recording).
