This is close. both great songs. I'll give it Tongue since they've got nothing else quite like it, and its such an evocative song.

"Tongue" is prime REM -- one of Stipe's most gorgeous vocals. I always thought it impressive that a song like that could sit at the center of their raunchiest rock album and fit so perfectly. No disrespect to "Leaving New York," but "Tongue" is probably top 10 for me.
