Yeah, for some reason, I'm more excited about this than Rogue One. And I'm not sure why. Hopefully Rogue One blows my mind. I want it to be great and expect it to be at the very least a good Star Wars movie.

I like everything ive read so far about it. Along with continuing on the journey with my new favorite star wars characters, im excited about how, apparently, different this movie will be compared to other star wars films. Form all i've read it sounds like people are thrilled and shocked at how the script turned out and Rians vision for the film.

This film is important for the SW world. Rogue One is a side note. It may be a great ride but we know the outcome already.

That's why the script is going to be so important for RO. Unless the plot is the mcguffin -- like this is actually the first mission to get the plans and it actually fails miserably and then the rebels have to try again and that's what we hear about in ANH -- RO is going to come down to the characters and whether or not we care.

I already care about Rey and Finn and Poe and Luke and Kylo Ren. In that sense EP 8 has an easier job of things. But, ultimately, you're right. There are more dime's than vermin's out there. What people seem to really care about is the "main" story, the Skywalker bloodline story. So, I agree, this one is more important to the SW cinematic universe than RO.

Plot is an important part of story telling. Especially suspense or action adventure or fantasy storytelling. And you've got all three of those sub-genres here.

The trick is to understand, as you do, that there are other elements to great storytelling. And if you can emphasize those elements, especially in a situation like this where the plot MIGHT be largely known already, then you can create a memorable, suspenseful, and gripping story/experience.

It's not a deal breaker, obviously. And maybe the writing can incorporate what we already know in a satisfying way.

I hate plot with a passion, as I'm sure everyone knows. It might be an important part of storytelling. But I don't think storytelling is a particularly important part of cinema.

This idea that people knowing the story's outcome might hurt their enthusiasm is just so bizarre to me. Last time I checked, Titanic was one of the most successful movies of all time. It's not important. How the movie gets there is.
