I was being facetious, of course. But comments like this really do seem awful to me:

I could give a shit what any given candidate thinks about abortion, transgender bathrooms, or their recollection of Nancy Regan's stance on AIDS research...none of that impacts me.

This is pretty selfish.

Those issues fall so far below taxes and national security (in my opinion) they're not even worth presidential candidates discussing during election campaigns. Aren't these issues handled at the state level anyway? Look at this new law in NC right now. You think Obama supports it?

I mean, really? You don't think they're worth discussing because they don't directly affect you as a cis, straight, white male? Come on. There are other people besides you. A woman's right to safe, affordable, accessible healthcare seems like something that needs to be discussed. A transgender or gay person's right to dignity and safety seems like something that needs to be discussed. As a society, our governmental needs and issues extend far, far beyond simply how much we pay in taxes and how "secure" we are as a nation. I understand voting for your own interests. But I would hope that the well-being of your fellow citizens would one of your interests. Society can't function without empathy.
