Re: Unpopular Music Opinions
Even if there was such thing, LCD Soundsystem still wouldn't be "objectively outsanding".

I don't care how good they are, after watching that annoying documentary, I hate them too.

I was mostly kidding, I've barely listened to LCD Soundsystem and I've actually enjoyed it.

Good "songcraft" and "performance" are both subjective terms. All I have to do is say I disagree with you and, boom, it is not objective. Art can't be quantified with any kind of scientific formula. Its merits can be argued, but ultimately, that is all.

I assume that you understand that paying a price for a piece of artwork consequently bestows an objective value upon it.LoathedVermin72 wrote:I assume this is a joke, yes?zeb wrote:Art auctions say otherwise.LoathedVermin72 wrote:Art can't be quantified

Re: Unpopular Music Opinions
Is this really the argument you wanna go with? The amount of money a work of art generates quantifies its quality? You really don't foresee any problems with this line of thinking?zeb wrote:I assume that you understand that paying a price for a piece of artwork consequently bestows an objective value upon it.LoathedVermin72 wrote:I assume this is a joke, yes?zeb wrote:Art auctions say otherwise.LoathedVermin72 wrote:Art can't be quantified

Re: Unpopular Music Opinions
I can accept an argument that there's some kind of objectivity in measuring musicianship and songcraft, demos by local bands that are really obviously not good in either of these respects come to mind, but once you clear that threshold I think you're on much shakier ground. What's "good" about a song like Corduroy is that the sum of its parts hits my ears/brain in a pleasurable way. Why some songs affect me in that way and others don't isn't something I can even begin to define but I think it's deeply subjective.
