Kevin Morby of Woods is releasing a solo album on the 15th April. It's pretty haunting and the title track "Singing Saw" has been stuck in my head all day. Here's the preview of it from 'tube:

And here's a great slice of funky groove from Thao & The Get Down Stay Down - Meticulous Bird

Shades of Yoko here, in a good way.

I just gave that new Yuck album a spin. Really enjoying the sounds on that one.

Any Hayes Carll fans around these parts? I missed his free in-store at Cactus Music last night because it was wristband-only and I didn't pre-order the album. It's a really good one, too. Much more subdued and personal than the lively and political content of KMAG YOYO.

"Good While It Lasted," the third track on the album, has one of those classic folk lines that is just so good you can't believe you haven't heard it before. Hell, maybe you have. "Gave up all those childish ways that made me old too soon." A lot of Townes Van Zandt feels in this album.

Also, new Sturgill Simpson out today. Not a big fan of that "In Bloom" cover, but I really like what he was trying to do with the song. He more or less kept the sentiment intact, but somehow it misses. He had a great cover of "The Promise" on Metamodern Sounds in Country Music, though, so it's not like the idea of translating one genre to another is a weakness of his or anything like that. Oh well. Can't wait to hear A Sailor's Guide to Earth.

I got the new Explosions in the Sky earlier this week and have been really into it. On top of that I also checked out the new EP/album/whatever that Deakin, from Animal Collective, put out (Sleep Cycle) and Colin Stetson's Sorrow. Both were really good, so my outlook on 2016 is improved, at least for this week.

Listening now. This is good stuff. I like how his passages start off sounding like blues-by-numbers Clapton kinda stuff but sort of veer weirdly off that path throughout the measures. Disorienting, but in a strangely comforting way.

Tell me more about this Deakin music. Animal Collective solo projects are much more fun than Animal Collective albums these days. Though I think I liked Painting With more than most people I've talked to.

I'v only listened to it the one time (so far), but it's sort of like "Wide Eyed," from Centipede Hz, stylistically extrapolated out into six songs. It's fairly mellow, and very atmospheric. In a way, it reminded me of Feels-era Animal Collective a bit, too.

I guess it's supposed to be related in some way to the Kickstarter project he attempted.

I checked out the album Pennied Days by Night Moves and really enjoyed it. I am really tired and a bit flat and this track here is just totally hitting the right spots for me right now:

What are your favorite tracks on here, LV? I think "Desperados" might be my favorite.
