I can listen to the first two all the way through anytime and not tire of them. Ten is a nostalga album for me now but so what? No Code has aged better but I rank it a notch lower.
I can flipflop Binaural and Vs. I like them both, just not as much as others on the board.
The last three each have at least 3-4 songs I enjoy but more than I don't.

Just did a tally based on this thread only, and only counting when someone named a unique first and/ or last (if it was a group or a tie I didn't include it)

By far the most loved so far has been Vitalogy, topping 31 lists, with No Code a pretty distant second at 19.

Most common in last place is Backspacer by far, with self-titled second.

Thanks for the welcome Stip, though I've been on the new board since the January reboot and was a member of the old since 2004, so I'm not really a newbie, just an infrequent poster.

It is interesting to note how one's favorite album can be another's least liked. I think that says something about the quality of most of PJ's output.

It is interesting to note how one's favorite album can be another's least liked. I think that says something about the quality of most of PJ's output.

I also think it speaks to the variety of music that they make. I don't always think of Pearl Jam as being a wildly diverse band. But obviously there's a wide variety to like and latch onto.

I just don't GET the Avocado record at all. Backspacer isn't exactly awe-inspiring, but its fun, well written and sounds great! Avocado - I mean - meh! The only songs I really like are Come Back and Inside Job. Army Reserve has got a great chorus, but the verse just sounds like they made it up on the spot without much thought. The rest just sounds tossed off - but not in a "hey, we can still write great pop songs" way that happens on Backspacer. S/T is Backspacer without the sense of fun.

Too bad you don't get it because the first half of that album is quite good. I find Comeback to be the laziest track on the album and Inside Job (while ambitious) falls really flat for me.

No Code - patchy as hell but i guess it's a deliberate mess. so much greater than the sum of its parts.
Yield - some kind of culmination of the band's "spiritual" period. their peak in the studio.
Pearl Jam - the first half of it is a high point in their output. maybe my judgement is blurred by the close ties it has with my life. i've never been that bothered with the way it sounds.
Vs - patchy but with a palpable sense of urgency. many great songs, a few duds...transitionnal.
Binaurual - some of its parts are greater than the sum of them, if that makes sense. compromises. many interresting songs and bits but in the end, i have a hard time figuring out where the fuck this album wants to take me.
Backspacer - some good songs, some not so good...there's hardly a peak on this record. GSMF is the one for me, no contest. it seems obvious to me that someone, or the whole band decided to cash in on Eddie's new folky successes. i prefer when the band lets loose.
Riot Act - again, this one peaks early with the opener. the rest is a mess with occasionnal glimpses of what i like in this band. weird album. some of their poorest songwriting on this one. worst Eddie's vocals too, deliberate or not.
