Shut up. The only way Merle Haggard was in his 70's when he died is if he died in 1993.

Tony Conrad, renowned drone/minimalism/experimental/avant composer, performer, theorist, filmmaker, and writer died today at 76. He was also a professor at the University at Buffalo. I saw him play once, opening for Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and I have the collaborative album he did with Hangedup. I suppose I should probably check out more his work someday.

That's a big one. Prince was one of the few big name artists I had not seen live that I wanted to. He was just here for what was basically a pop up theater show too. :(
