I don't like this guy and love him, at the same time.

I should probably take this to Burt's thread in A&E but I'm still waiting for someone to convince me that art is inherently political. So if Verm, trag and/or Stip (or anyone) wants to chime in and convince me, I'm all ears.

Perhaps "ideological" is a better word. I just think, by virtue of being made by a human or humans, it will inherently have ideological undertones and implications, whether intended or not, because people have brains and ideas and perspectives and it's going to come through in what they write or make or whatever because that's just how people work.

Oh, okay. Yeah. I see. Yes, I agree in that case.

Whether or not that can be extrapolated to "political" is a bit more open to debate. I'm inclined to say yes, but it's a very gray area.

I think "idealogical" & "conceptual" are the correct qualifiers, not "political". Although some of my favorite art is political. I recently saw a Martha Rosler show at the Seattle Art Museum that was very political & very, very good. Highly recommended.

Wait, isn't there a contemporary art thread somewhere here?

Yeah, I'd need more convincing on that score.

Hmm, I don't know about that. I think politicizing a work of art only because of the identity of its author is sketchy.

The Antony thing, that is. NWA was absolutely political. Defiantly, overtly so. "Fuck the Police" is a straight-up protest song.

Oh, there's another Radiohead thread!

I want to take back what I said about Seperator being one of the weaker songs on TKOL yesterday. It's pretty great.
