Crush w/ Eyeliner. No contest.

Try Not to Breathe is REM by numbers. And I like it. But it sounds like so many other REM songs, albeit great REM songs. It has the quintessential REM-ness to it.

Crush is funky and weird and right up my alley.

Try Not To Breathe is one of their greatest. I don't think it's that much R.E.M. by the numbers. Maybe R.E.M. from 91-92 by the numbers.

Crush With Eyeliner is Monster by numbers.

I don't really hear that. But even if I grant you that, I'll say that Monster is unique within their catalog. Thereby, Crush is way more interesting than any other song that immediately sounds like REM the second it starts.

Crush With Eyeliner is really fucking good. I just listened to both of these tracks and though Try Not to Breathe is a beautiful song, it just can't hang with the awesomeness that is Crush With Eyeliner. I'm bummed that this will be its last match.
