I did, yes. I've only scratched the surface, but I like it quite a bit so far.

Re: What podcasts are you listening to?
Yeah, I never listened to any podcasts until Serial. And I loved that one so much that I've spent the last few years trying to find something that scratches the itch with any real satisfaction. I've got a few I listen to regularly now, but it's more out of habit or something to do to tune out assholes on the subway. I don't have many that I genuinely love, especially ones that do more than just bullshit back and forth.LoathedVermin72 wrote:I could name, like, three.durdencommatyler wrote:So you're not even gonna try?LoathedVermin72 wrote:I don't know if there are 12 good ones.durdencommatyler wrote:Name 12 good ones.LoathedVermin72 wrote:Not the good ones. You listed three of the most aimless bulshitters though. And Jacob is already established as a jackass.LoathedVermin72 wrote:I listened to the one with Paul Scheer, Jacob Sirof, and Moshe Kasher from January. It seemed like a lot of aimless bullshitting.bune wrote:¯\_(ツ)_/¯
what episode are you listening to? The last one - the one I said was terrible - probably isn't the best one to start on.
I thought he was funny on last comic standing (yeah, it's been awhile) and I think his stand-up is pretty bad so maybe this podcast is just enough Doug for me.
Good ones?
Alice Isn't Dead
This American Life
Good Job, Brain
How Did This Get Made?
Welcome to Night Vale
I have 16 total that I listen to and only those five would I consider non-meandering. HDTGM is borderline but they have a dedicated topic each week so it's focused at least that much (though if you don't like Paul Scheer then maybe not?). Alice Isn't Dead & Welcome to Night Vale are both story-based, TAL is pretty popular so I won't go into that, and Good Job, Brain is a trivia podcast with weekly topics.

Re: What podcasts are you listening to?
How Did This Get Made? is far and away my favorite podcast. I actually like Scheer. Because their discussion always has a focused topic, BSing is usually kept at a minimum there.
The other podcasts I listen to regularly:
The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast
Lore
On Cinema (defunct now)
Real Time with Bill Maher
Watching the Throne - A Lyrical Analysis of Kanye West (My friends run this, though, so I'm biased.)
WTF with Marc Maron (skipping Maron's solo BS, of course)

It's by one-half of Night Vale, actually.durdencommatyler wrote:Wait, what's this about? Is this fiction, like Limetown or Nightvale?bune wrote:Alice Isn't Dead
Note it has an end date so the story seems to be self-contained. Jasika Nicole is the driver.Alice Isn't Dead - a new serial fiction podcast from the team behind Welcome to Night Vale.
A truck driver searches across America for the wife she had long assumed was dead. In the course of her search, she will encounter not-quite-human serial murderers, towns literally lost in time, and a conspiracy that goes way beyond one missing woman.
Every other Tuesday, from March 8 to July 12, 2016.

I've never listened to Night Vale, though I've heard good things about it. Is Alice as good? I might check it out. I have a hard time with fictional podcasts, though. I haven't found one that I'm in love with yet.

Re: What podcasts are you listening to?
It's possible you'll like it because you've never listened to Night Vale and don't have expectations. The best thing about the show is that it doesn't sound 'fake' like someone's in a basement talking to a microphone.durdencommatyler wrote:I've never listened to Night Vale, though I've heard good things about it. As for the show itself...it's kind of hard to pigeon-hole what it's like. I can't really say too much about how I felt about the first episode or two without coloring it.

I listened to a really heavy episode of Death, Sex & Money today about a guy who killed someone when he was 17, is now 41 and still in prison, and is married with kids. The thought of being imprisoned for (potentially) life for something stupid you did as a teenager...fuck. That's overwhelming to think about it.
