Totally agree with this. My biggest complaint usually after listening to Prince songs, is the lack of guitar.surfndestroy wrote:Is it the songwriting that does that or the guitar playing?Strat wrote:Im not sure how anyone could listen to Controversy and not bump along to it with a huge smile.
Personally, I think Prince was at his best as a guitar player when playing with the Revolution. Post Revolution, his guitar playing was much less prominent in his music. I say that only having followed him up to Crystal Ball.
I think Prince was great on guitar and could have been amazing but he didn't push his guitar playing as it didn't fit the music he played. He's a could have been a contender who rarely tried.
I just watched the RAve Un2 the Year 2000 DVD, and the highlight, is his cover of Purple House (Red House from Hendrix) as its the one song where he really showed off his guitar playing.
I've seen a lot of you mention the song "I Could Never Take the Place Of Your Man" another one I always loved with a similar vibe, thats not on the greatest hits CDs, "When You Were Mine" I have a live version that has a great extended keyboard and guitar solo. Think it was from the live box set he put out years ago
