Vs I was saying was my favorite album for a while until recently when I re-realized how good Ten really is.

I honestly can't rank them....

FORCED to Id say

Elderly Woman
Animal
Go
Daughter
Indifference
Rats
Dissident
Glorified G
Rearviewmirror
Leash
WMA
Blood

Actually that was really easy. Go/Animal could be swapped they are a 1-2 punch that I find hard to put one over the other. I acknowledge that RVM maybe should be higher but this is a song I just never have liked too much...Glorified G would be lower because of the cheesiness and overall lack of substance but the music and vibe is SO good.

It really is.
With songs like Go, Animal, Daughter, RVM and Indifference (not to mention the perfection to which they are played), I'm surprised that Vs doesn't appear closer to the top of more people's album rankings.
Me too, I think it's their best record.
But best≠favorite for many people. I'd agree it's their best record, but it's not my favorite.
ugh
Shouldn't you be house hunting right now?

Ten and Vs are neck and neck, but I tend to give Vs the edge. It does have some of Mike's very best work, I think. Maybe it's time for a listen. It's been awhile.

From Dave A's fbook page.
Benjamin James Trower posts:
From The genius of David Abbruzzese...
Reason 56.

I never understood this song until probably the last 5 years of my life. Not from a lyrical interpretation point of view but from a drummers perspective. What I am referring to is from 2:25 minutes onward. All of a sudden the drum groove changes completely. It almost sounds random and incoherent to the rest of the track that preceded it...

But then I listened again... and again... and again. And then I realised Dave was 'singing'. By this, I mean that the drums were singing (or 'beating') the same notes as the vocals. At first you just hear the drums with the change up, and the rhythm guitar still plugging the same groove. But then when the singer starts launching back into the : "1, 2, 3, 4, 5 against 1, five-ah, five, five, against one, I said..." at the end of the song, it dawned upon me... He was 'singing' the parts with his drums. In other words, not only was it a counter point to the vocals, but also acted as an anchor to reinforce them. The song also ends with a drum flourish which is pretty much the equivalent of cracking open a cold one with boys = completely appropriate.

*note - if you have a good pair of headphones, you can also hear Dave's famous 'triplet doubles' he does with his bass drum just before landing the key accents on his snare*

For years as a drummer I took pride in my ability to lock in with a bassist. Shout out to my brother Anton Dalmau as I thought we were a fucking great rhythm section. Occasionally I would colour guitar parts. But never did it once occur to me to actually 'sing' the vocals with my drumming. Not once. Never... And I am a clever wee sausage at times.

And that, ladies and gentlemen; is David Abbruzzese. Just another day at the office.

*mind blown*

Thanks for listening into it, Benjamin !! It is always rewarding when the 'work' that I put into playing for the music is noticed. A little side note for you;
Brendan O'Brien (co-producer for the album) mentioned his distaste for China and Splash type cymbals. I took offense, and feeling my oats, when we went into the tracking room in the studio to record Animal, I proceeded to exchange all of the crash cymbals on my drum set for China types. The sound inspired a slightly different feel that shaped my track in just the right way!
