Jeff Ament - Tone
Hi, I tried searching for a thread dedicated to this record, but got an error message (i emailed the address on the message), so please feel free to make fun, give me wedgies and merge it. I mean, I'm assuming there was a thread for this record, right?
Anyway, I'm hit and miss when it comes to side project/solo releases. I love Bayleaf but have yet to have Moonlander really "hit me." Sidebar regarding Moonlander - what are some favorite tracks? Is it like a lot of PJ albums - where the track list isn't too hot but the music is?
Okay, so Jeff really impressed me with this release. "Just Like That" has this ramshackle, post-punk, barely written feel to it. Not sure if it's a great album opener, though. The next track, "Give Me A Reason" would work better, I think. "Bulldozer" reminds me a LOT of God's Dice, even down to the pace and placement of the bridge and the way it goes back into the final verse.
I won't get into it track-by-track, but some early favorites include "Bulldozer," "Life of a Salesman," and "Doubting Thomasina."
I'm going to spin this one a few more times and digest it before getting into his 2012 follow-up, but for those who have heard that one and/or both Jeff solo records, what's the consensus on While My Heart Beats?

Heaven / Hell has gotten a more positive response. Do you still listen to the album ImOnTheInternet?

There was a thread (which apparently I started) about Tone at the time of its release, it's in the archived version of RM: http://archive.theskyiscrape.com/viewto ... =1&t=77779

They should put this on vinyl. Maybe for the delayed Record Store Day!
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

I think this was before I "rediscovered" Radiohead?
I'd never really listened to Kid A, Amnesiac, etc. until some point in time, maybe six or seven years ago (perhaps before).
I'd written the band off on the basis of their overwrought 90s stuff.
