I think After the Goldrush should be spun early on, and there's no big rush to hear Harvest Moon. Otherwise you're in great shape.

Listening to S/T and I can instantly tell I like Young and lot more than the Stones.

Wow, I can already hear the "Godfather of Grunge" thing on his first album. The guitar tone in "I've Been Waiting for You" seems way ahead of its time.

I've always felt this about Neil. I know he is popular but it has always seemed more of a "cult" following, and it is why I feel he is one of the most underrated musicians ever.

Really enjoyed his debut. While I'm listening to EKTIN, I'm seeing parallels between my feelings about these albums and my feeling's about Springsteen's early albums. Both have a comparatively "rudimentary" and verbose debut that often gets overlooked in favor of what came after, and a sophomore album (with not many songs, but the ones that are there are long) that everyone loves and I am underwhelmed by.

If this trajectory continues to parallel, Neil's third album should be great.

Has anyone ever posted about that Day of the New song that sounds like AIC, in which he repeatedly sings "I've foundly found a reason, I don't need an excuse..."?

Isn't that "finally"? Though honestly he pronounces it so oddly maybe it is foundly.

Also maybe it's meth.

What does everyone think of Jerry Cantrell's solo work?

I like "Boggy Depot," though I haven't listened to it in years. "Degradation Trip" had a great sludgy vibe to it but ultimately I thought the songs were pretty weak. I haven't really listened to any post-Layne AIC.

And I agree with you about "Brush Away" -- one of my favorite AIC tunes.

The Degradation Trip double album can be condensed into one great album.

So far I have a feeling the Stones are a great singles band but not so much a great album band.

This is so true. My mom had all of their albums on vinyl when I was growing up and I couldn't really get into them outside of the tried and true. I downloaded the albums a few months ago to try again and it was still singles only. Maybe one or two tracks were ok, but it was all singles otherwise.

EKTIN is probably my favorite of his albums, right up there with Harvest. But yeah, After the Gold Rush is great too.

Man, Harvest is so good.

I'd throw in a personal favorite as well - ZUMA. Listen to that after On the Beach maybe.

I'd add "Rust Never Sleeps," but man, that's a lot of great music you're in for, LV.

I've always found "Everybody Knows" a tad overrated too.

I must say I'm a bit disappointed with EKTIN and, so far, ATGR. I thought S/T had much richer mood and texture, and I was expecting that to evolve on subsequent releases. But the opposite is happening: these sound like more straightforward '70s rock to me. They're not bad, but I don't find them particularly exciting. However, I've heard On the Beach is moody AF, so I'm looking forward to that one.

2. Give ATGR another whirl some evening with friends. There's something about that record that creates a very comfortable space to share with loved ones.
