No, not at all. I just anticipate you wanting to talk about Neil a lot more so thought I'd bump this.LoathedVermin72 wrote:Oh, ha. If you wanna move my posts I guess you can.

Okay, so Harvest is clearly a huge sonic leap forward. Damn.

Some of these '70s albums have production that is just unmatched. This, Rumours, Born to Run. Magnificent-sounding music.

Did Neil get hooked on drugs between ATGR and Harvest?

Oh man, that song blew me away.tragabigzanda wrote:The only one I don't love is A Man Needs a Maid. And I love the song -- his live versions are haunting. But the production on that one just sticks out like a sore thumb from the rest of the record.LoathedVermin72 wrote:Man, this album is where it's at

That was the song I was listening to when I made that post! I think it's my favorite on the album. That or "Out on the Weekend".E.H. Ruddock wrote:I love Heart of Gold so much. I used to not like it, but man have I done a 180 on it.LoathedVermin72 wrote:Man, this album is where it's at

Listening to On the Beach. It's very subtle, but I feel like he was drugged out of his mind making this. "See the Sky About the Rain" - again, in a very subtle way - sounds totally unhinged and strung out to me. It's a bizarre song. There's a sad, understated desperation bubbling beneath this album.

"Vampire Blues" is downright harrowing. He sounds fall-down wasted. The music sounds fall-down wasted. The whole thing seems tired, groggy, on wobbly legs.

That's fascinating! I think this album is my favorite so far. The title track... mmmm...tragabigzanda wrote:On the Beach and Tonight's the Night were both made under very intentional challenges: Neil hired a bunch of session pros, and then made them play each other's instruments, so the pro drummer was on guitar, etc. It creates a very off-kilter vibe throughout those two records.LoathedVermin72 wrote:Listening to On the Beach. Time Fades Away, his live recording of otherwise unreleased music, was made just before On the Beach, and was somewhat similar in concept in that he took his guys on the road and had them play a bunch of brand new songs with very little rehearsal. It's this era of his that fascinates me the most, and those are the three records I come back to more than any other.
