Whats with all the curse yelling?

Post by mikejasond »

I don't get the part of Jeremy where Eddie goes "seemed a harmless little" and then the lights come up and everyone yells "FUCK!!!!" like they think they're so cool because they said a bad word.

I dont get it, arent most people there 20-40? They're allowed to say fuck. I guess it could be cool if you were like 13 and you're like "yeah I said the F word and Im not gonna get in trouble ha ha ha" but I think its kind of immature and embarrassing in this context.

I can understand the part of Given to Fly where people yell "Yeah FUCKERS?!?!! HE STILL STANDS!" because its an expression of defiance in the song, and can be a powerful moment kind of, but in JEREMY!? The line comes and goes...its not a big powerful moment in the song. If it was treated that way in the song it would be just as awkward as it is live, thank god in the song he just says it like normal.

I feel like there are more songs than Jeremy and GTF where this happens but I can't remember right now.

Were these your first PJ concerts? This isn't new. I'll post the 2FT fan participation guide for you.

Third and fourth, I went back in 2013 as well. Ive noticed it before, but I noticed it again last night. I still don't get it. I dunno what 2FT is but the fact there is a fan participation guide amuses me so I would like to see it.

lol I cant wait to read this.

I will say the Alive fist pump was really really awesome.

Is it a thing to cross your wrists over your head on the "hands bound" line of Garden? Because I saw like 2-3 people do it and I thought it was funny.

The Baba O Riley singalong WAS awesome for sure.

Its funny that the two giant crowd pleasing mega-anthems at the end of the show though weren't even their songs. I wonder if Eddie wishes they had written those songs.

Maybe he intended for Lightning Bolt to take their place lol

For me it has just seems as though it is part of the "tradition" at a PJ show, much like raising the arms during "sing in the choir" in DTE. Not so much about the curse word as it is the tradition. Also like yelling out all of the mumbled words in Evenflow.

No idea where I got this but I was under the impression that the "Jeremy" thing came from how the word was edited out of the radio single/music video. Now that I think about it, that doesn't make much sense.

Yeah. I think it's probably traceable back to the Atlanta '94 show, where Eddie screamed the curse word himself. People (generally under the age of 15) were pretty impressed by that back in the day. Now those people are in their mid-30's.

I tried to start the tradition of everyone pulling a quarter from behind their ear during Sleight of Hand, but it didn't catch on.
