Other than Pearl Jam, who else is there?

I know it's easy to get wrapped up in a new-album-bias, but I don't think I had a first listen from RH hit me this hard since Kid A.

This is easily better than KoL & possibly challenging In Rainbows. Never thought I'd say that.

The whole thing is fucking beautiful. Possibly Nigel Godrich's best work.

The band was probably considering his offer until he showed them an early cut and they saw Tom Cruise running around and yelling for "TECH SUPPORT!"

I bought the FLAC via Boomkat however I only managed to get through the first three songs on my way to work. I'm anxiously looking forward to hearing the rest.
Listened through to The Numbers now and I am seriously enjoying this album so far.

Decks Dark and Identik made a big impression on first hearing.
tragabigzanda wrote:Like KoL, they seem more concerned here with creating a certain ambience, rather than the dramatic crescendos found on their earlier works. That's something I really appreciate about KoL, because I've been rewarded for repeated listenings by finding all these little nuggets of sound. But I don't think that's going to happen here. The sounds mostly seem to range between muddy, to open and airy.

(snip)

I'm not saying it sucks; it doesn't, and I have to assume that this band who has proven themselves masters of their chosen medium have intended for me to hear it exactly as I'm hearing it. But it mostly strikes me as an ambient/cinematic soundscape-type record, with touches of psychedelic folk, and it's not blowing my mind in either capacity. But I'll keep spinning it, because KoL took a few months to grab me.
re: the highlighted passages - if you asked me to describe exactly what I want out of a Radiohead record, that pretty much nails it.

Delighted to see you guys are liking it. If they're making the hardcore fans happy that's all that really matters.

Kid A onwards is 17100 seconds so should be 22800 copies of the special edition. Of course if they included I might be wrong, In Rainbows disk 2, b sides and remixes there could be quite a few more!

Present Tense, True Love Waits, Daydreaming, Decks Dark, Ful Stop, and Identikit all hit the sweet spot. Very emotional pieces.

But seriously... PRESENT TENSE... Oh my sweet holy fuckin' goodness! :heartbeat:

Nice to see you're coming around to it! Now we only need to get LV on board.

Present Tense is one of the warmest and prettiest Radiohead songs to date.

Since XL got the the catalog rights back, looks like they're wasting no time in getting new vinyl pressings out there:

And yeah, this album just keeps getting better & better with each spin

The minute & a half drum fade-in at the top of Ful Stop is fantastic

There are strong elements of all 8 previous albums swirling around in there

Yeah I noticed this a couple of weeks ago when shopping for a birthday gift. Wondering how the quality will be compared to those Capitol releases, or the originals?

Anyone think there's meaning or a message behind the destroying of the masters going back to Kid A? Radiohead never does something without a purpose, I feel.

Theories:

-- a record label fuck you by the band?
-- symbolically saying all these albums are related and Moon is the last chapter
-- symbolically saying goodbye
-- house cleaning; converted everything to digital

I think is a pretty good description of the album. As much as I like ambient/cinematic soundscapes, it just doesn't have much room in my life and one soundscape recording doesn't hold much more emotional appeal over another well done one.
I get it, this is who and what Radiohead are now. But really, this is music for middle aged people by middle aged people. Done extremely well it won't be part of (by design) many peoples soundtrack of the summer of 2016. Critically acclaimed but listened to by fewer and fewer people.
Think I’m going to try being kind to everyone a chance.
