Re: Radiohead | A Moon Shaped Pool
Give up the Ghost and Separator are both pretty decent little tunes. Not songs I imagine I'll reach for often but songs I could stand throwing onto a mix or hearing pop up from time to time at random. Separator, especially. It's a lot like Codex in that it's a song they've recorded before but there's a lightness, an airiness, some kind of strange charm to it. Whatever that quality is, it's enough to keep it from feeling used and/or rehashed.

Re: Radiohead | A Moon Shaped Pool
Yeah, The King of Limbs is still my least favorite Radiohead album. Pretty mediocre and uninteresting overall.
Burn the Witch and Daydreaming are both leagues better than anything on TKoL.

Don't forget Thom singing about his day on the beach performing somersaults with all the jellyfish in the water.tragabigzanda wrote:It sounds like a piano going "dun-duddledun-duddledun-duddledun-duddleun-duddleun, dun-duddledun-duddledun-duddledun-duddleun-duddleun," and the processed guitar goes "ba-GUNG! ba-GUNG!" Yep, I love when he harmonizes/sings background vocals with himself

I couldn't finish listening to it a second time so soon after that first time. I switched over to St. Vincent.

Re: Radiohead | A Moon Shaped Pool
I don't think I've ever been this instantly taken by a Radiohead album before.
I'm kinda viewing Burn the Witch (which I really like) as the album's version of an overture or opening credits introduction. The music initially sounds almost optimistic even as the words are anything but, and then it.
Viewing it that way allows me to look at the heart wrenching Daydreaming and True Love Waits as the bookends of the album from a thematic and emotional viewpoint.
Besides those two I think Identik and Ful Stop are other standouts, but that'll probably change during each listen.
I really can't believe how much I like this.

And in the spirit of making snap judgements: Daydreaming is a masterpiece.

I've only heard it once, but I was surprised how short it felt. For a 6 minute song, it really flew by. It's intoxicating.

Re: Radiohead | A Moon Shaped Pool
Glass Eyes is another rare beauty.
Hey it's me
I just got off the train
A frightening place
Their faces are concrete grey
And I'm wondering, should I turn around?
Buy another ticket
Panic is coming on strong
So cold, from the inside out
No great job, no message coming in
And you're so small
Glassy eyed light of day
Glassy eyed light of day
The path trails off
And heads down a mountain
Through the dry bush, I don't know where it leads
I don't really care
And the path trails off
And heads down a mountain
Through the dry bush, I don't know where it leads
I don't really care
I feel this love turn cold
I feel this love turn cold

I know Thom typically says that his lyrics are never about him, but damn this feels like a really sad, personal album from his point of view
