Yeah, aesthetics is the domes main problem. It was built just as the cookie cutter stadium era was ending.

It was such an engineering marvel that, at the time, it was amazing to see and absolutely state-of-the-art. But yeah, immediately after that teams switched the the classic, throwback look that we've seen ever since... and it's sooooo much better that way.
