Cursed Sleep is right behind The Seedling on The Letting Go for me. It's gotta be one of his most unique sounding songs. The first few seconds of The Seedling remind me of Fugazi from the Kill Taker or Red Medicine era.

A tape has been sold at recent gigs: Bonnie Prince Billy II - eleven songs each side. There is no other information on it.

Has anyone actually bought this? I'd love to know what is on it. Live stuff or rarities? How could you not get this if you had the opportunity?

And also, what do people think of the new Bitchin' Bajas collaboration? For me it's a lot like Dylan doing a Sinatra album: Any release is a good one, but all that energy could have been directed to so many better places.

It was me, Mike. It is hardly an exhaustive comp, but I can put it up for you if you like. Here are the details:

So, I mentioned in the "RM Top 25" thread that I made a 4CD Bonnie 'Prince' Billy "rarities" mix last year, and at least one RMer took moderate interest in it so I figured I'd dangle it over here. Calling it a 4CD mix is a little misleading, because the 4th disc is just the new self-titled record and another digital-only full-length release titled "Funtown Comedown"--a live-in-studio recording--crammed onto a single disc for convenience's sake. But the first three are a nice convenient way to listen to some of BPB's many, many scattered one-offs, EP's, B-sides, 7-inch singles, etc. It is not an exhaustive collection--not only is it virtually impossible to keep up with all of BPB's releases, but there were a number of things I could only find in really, really low bitrate mp3's which even for a non-audiophile like myself just doesn't hack it. As it stands I think the lowest quality files here are the mp3's I bought myself from Drag City's website (in the ballpark of 256kbps) and a few files I bought from iTunes. So if that sort of thing doesn't bother you this is a wonderful collection of songs that are a pain in the ass to track down one by one. Contents spoilered below:

I'm going to see BPB tomorrow, at the same venue where I saw Bill Callahan last week; small, intimate place. I'm hoping they're selling copies of the new LP so I can pick it up.

How was BC? What was the band setup and setlist? Ive always wanted to see him.

Haha wow, what was this, 3 years ago? Excellent bump.

Bill was great, extremely mellow show (my wife fell asleep). If I remember correctly (and it's been a while), there was a guy on drums, someone on bass, and a second guitar. He played basically all of his most recent record, some choice older cuts of BC/Smog, and one cover. I'd go again in a heartbeat, but he hasn't been around. BPB is coming back to the same venue next month, but we live outside the city now and have a kid, so we never have fun.
