Wife listened to the first half of the album last night while we cooked. Her review:

"Burn the Witch" – I love this song. I want to hear it live. Have they ever put an orchestra on a song before?
"Daydreaming" – I like listening to this song without the video. Both are beautiful, but they take away from each other. I get sucked into the video and forget to listen to the music. But the song might be the saddest Radiohead song ever. I want to talk about this one in more depth later (we haven't yet).
"Decks Dark" – No verbal review except, "Is that a choir?". She stood there chopping onions sorta dancing to it. Then at the 3:25 mark where the ending really starts to take off with the piano, she really started dancing slow and sexy, saying, "I can dance to a Radiohead song?!"
"Desert Island Disk" – No verbal review. She just danced around the kitchen, which ultimately, is a rave review from her.
"Ful Stop" – Wow I love this song

That's as far as we got before we ate. Her overall impression so far is, "I can tell I really, really like this album. It's not something I can listen to all the time because it seems like a real mood piece. But when that mood hits it is perfect." (ie. Radiohead)

Gave this a proper spin on headphones today..it's mostly just aural wallpaper..beige wallpaper..but there's a few really interesting tunes..

did you ever get the fear? from a comedown or just anxiety? Radiohead were always great at turning that into music and making it sound like the fear..paranoid eerie music..this is like diet fear..or radiohead lite..

better than their last few though.

Overall this is very good. Very spacial, sad, haunting and groovy.

Burn the witch - I was right about this probably being an opener. It's a nice prelude to the album. Hearing false hope.

Daydream - This one killed me without the video. So sad, makes you want to get sad.

Decks Dark - This one i liked right off the bat. Just a nice vocal melody. Not a masterpiece but solid.

Desert island Disk - Not really into this track at the moment.

Ful Stop - Not really into this one either. It's just a fast-frenzy number that they do once in a while.

Glass Eye - Beautiful liquid-y piano open. Orchestration is on point. But not overly engaging right now.

Identikit - One of the best tracks they've done. A much better version of Lotus Flower. I like Johnny forcing his guitar on the mix giving it a more "rock" sound. Give it a nice dimension.

The Numbers - Yeah, Neil Young, dropped D, its all there. Kind of a slog but the strings give it some life. Decent track.

Present Tense - Was hoping this made the cut and it did. The opening 35 seconds just stopped me in my tracks as it transitioned into the verse. And then Thom put me to bed. This track is another one of their best of their career.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Sailor..... - Another one of their best. So many things going on here with the off-beat. Really in love the vocal melody.

True Love Waits - I like what they did once i got over it being different than the live version. I wonder if the vocals were taken from years ago. Thom sounds like a young-in here.

So 5 masterpieces, 3 very good, 2 decent, 1 not interested.

Good job Radiohead!

Still haven't heard AMSP yet. But I'm continuing to dive backward into Radiohead. Listening to In Rainbows now on vinyl. This is my first spin (on vinyl) on a proper turntable/speak setup. And the first listen in a year +.

This is shit is destroying me. What a monster fucking record. I like it more than I remember and I remember loving it quite a bit. But it's actually even better than I recall. I'd put this at #2 on my list. Fucking gorgeous record and it sounds even better on vinyl. Such space and depth and focus.

I have not listen to AMSP either, but I found it to be their most diverse album. Here is my review:

DAYDREAMING: A spoken word piece with no musical accompaniment, in which the life of a goldfish is recounted in flemish
DECKS DARK: Vibraphones and Pan Flutes combine in a jungle of mysterious positivity
DESERT ISLAND DISK: Thom Yorke freestyles about falafel while DJ Qbert spins afghani top 40 hits
FUL STOP: A series of kick drum themes overlay the studio technician's emphatic requests that the kick drum cease making kick drums sounds
GLASS EYES: slide guitars abound in this tribute to Deacon from Waterworld
IDENTIKIT: the soundscape of bedford ave is re-constructed from iphone recordings of flatulence wafted into the faces of 20-somethings dressed in smart casual
THE NUMBERS: cause he always said everything two times, two times
PRESENT TENSE: jack irons joins radiohead for an inspiring cover of pearl jam's future days
TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SAILOR RICH MAN POOR MAN BEGGAR MAN THIEF: sing the 12 days of christmas as they wait in line to purchase powerball tickets
TRUE LOVE WAITS: tom waits' entire catalogue is performed in a condensed 11-minute overture
