Look no matter how you interpret the data it's still firmly on the more compressed side especially considering how dynamic the compositions are, far more than the LB songs. The fact that a big chunk of LB has roughly the same dynamic range is to be expected considering how monotonous the compositions are.tragabigzanda wrote:I think we need to parse the data...Mine wrote:http://dr.loudness-war.info/album/view/87508darth_vedder wrote:The music at the end of Present Tense is some of the best ever recorded by the band. It's on pair with the last 2 records.

Lightning Bolt: http://dr.loudness-war.info/album/view/61172
It shows that No Code has an album dynamic range of 7, and LB has a range of 8, but all that means is that LB's quietest and loudest parts are effectively one db larger than No Code's. But look at the actual track comparisons. The first six tracks on LB are nearly identical in volume and dynamic range, while the first half of No Code shows a lot more variety in volume levels:

clearly a new intern out to impress but trying too hard in 10c hq
The 1996 sessions for No Code featured longtime producer Brendan OBrien (his third consecutive collaboration with the band) and drummer Jack Irons, who'd joined the band at the end of the Vitalogy sessions. They explored new approaches to writing and recording, developing songs out of jam sessions and eschewing their stadium-grunge style for self-examining ballads, garage rock and even psychedelic sounds. No Code became the band's third consecutive No. 1 album, with lead single "Who You Are"topping Billboard's Modern Rock chart.

It's Bob Ludwig. They will be brickwalled as shit. (He brickwalls almost everything he touches, then blames the label/artist/whoever for "asking him to" brickwall it.)LoathedVermin72 wrote:I hope they brickwall the shit out of them
Asshole's ruined more than his fair share of releases in the last fifteen years. (His horrific remaster of Nevermind should be considered a war crime.)

Nowhere does the 10C state the release is exclusive to them.

well then it's a fucking awful idea if it happens.
I've always said if PJ just used the same guitars pedals and setting that they used on Hail Hail, everything would sound amazing..
if he's about to fuck that up via mastering, well fuck him
might not happen though. Mastering for vinyl doesn't mean brickwalling..

I hope when they "recreate" the packaging on Yield, they do a better job than the original. I just pulled mine out to give it a spin, and all the "liner notes" are smashed onto one side of the sleeve. Looks like shit.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

Re: No Code and Yield vinyl reissues in 10C shop!
I was a bit disappointed to see this as I thought it would mean no box set but surely 10C are a good chance to drop a super deluxe version next for the old wallet double hit trick once vinyl preorders have been filled. I've still got my Yield and No Code LPs but might get the 7"s. Hopefully they give Hail, Hail a vinyl release.
