Honestly, I haven't listened to one in ages. But isn't there a SLC show from 95 that's pretty well regarded?stip wrote:cutuphalfdead wrote:I'm willing to bet a version from 94/95/96 era is the best ever.
The 95 tour was just not good

Re: Song of the Moment: Immortality
I think the US shows from 1995 are pretty variable - Ed's voice struggles at times (including that SLC show) and I think Jack's drumming is probably his weakest during his time in the band. From memory, he injured his arm/wrist quite badly during the middle of the year and I think you can hear he's still not fully recovered for the remaining shows that tour.cutuphalfdead wrote:Honestly, I haven't listened to one in ages. The early 1995 shows (the US warm-up shows and the Asia, Australia, NZ tour) are uniformly EXCELLENT, however. Some of the best Pearl Jam shows ever.

Aren't Salt Lake City, Red Rocks, Summerfest, Soldier Field, Phoenix, and San Diego all pretty highly regarded?

Yeah, it's mainly the November shows - which seem to be what most people have heard - that I think aren't quite up to par.Lament wrote:Aren't Salt Lake City, Red Rocks, Summerfest, Soldier Field, Phoenix, and San Diego all pretty highly regarded?

it's possible. I only heard a few shows and then lost interest. Ed sounded terrible on the shows I heard.Birds in Hell wrote:Yeah, it's mainly the November shows - which seem to be what most people have heard - that I think aren't quite up to par.Lament wrote:Aren't Salt Lake City, Red Rocks, Summerfest, Soldier Field, Phoenix, and San Diego all pretty highly regarded?

I love the 95 tour. Ed sounds ravaged for sure, but those shows just have this certain energy about them. Kind of dark and mysterious.
Immortality from that period is fantastic because McCready was fucked up. His use of the delay was incredible. Believe he had the Boss DM3 Delay. Fantastic.
My favorite is absolutely the Self Pollution version.

I love 95. It's a year where the band is holding itself together by scotch tape, but it's interesting hearing them work it through. Yeah, Ed often sounds rough, but I'd have to discount a lot more years than that one if that was the sole thing that made a tour sub-standard.

This is my favorite part of that tour, and what I wish PJ would bring back (even if just a little bit) to their shows nowStrat wrote:I love the 95 tour. Ed sounds ravaged for sure, but those shows just have this certain energy about them. Kind of dark and mysterious.

it would be forced. they seemed "dark and mysterious" back then b/c eddie vedder was freaking out b/c of stalker problems, and the rest of the band was probably hoping he didnt quit.bodysnatcher wrote:This is my favorite part of that tour, and what I wish PJ would bring back (even if just a little bit) to their shows nowStrat wrote:I love the 95 tour. Re: Song of the Moment: Immortality
This is an amazing song with one flaw IMO.
Eddie should sing 'Immortality' after the second chorus!!! And his 'Immortality' after the long solo should be higher in the mix.

Two best parts:
Eddie singing 'Immortality' at the end of the first chorus into that guitar wail
When Dave all of a sudden starts BANGING on the ride cymbols during the solo

I love the song. I don't care for Matt's drumming on it.

Dave and Jack played this song so, so well. Matt not so much.

More than once listening to a bootleg I've heard Ed praise Matt for his skills after Immortality, and had to rewind the outro to see what he did that was supposedly so specialLetMeSleep wrote:Dave and Jack played this song so, so well. Matt not so much.

I'm not very well-versed in all the performances of Immorality, but I know on the 2000 boots I hear he sounds pretty great. I thought this was one of those songs that was always good to see live.

Re: Song of the Moment: Immortality
I don't think it would necessarily seem so forced. All they have to do is cut back on the lights and the chatter. In fact, I think it'd actually be more mature than the Pearl Jam Parties of the PRAMG.warehouse wrote:it would be forced. they seemed "dark and mysterious" back then b/c eddie vedder was freaking out b/c of stalker problems, and the rest of the band was probably hoping he didnt quit.bodysnatcher wrote:This is my favorite part of that tour, and what I wish PJ would bring back (even if just a little bit) to their shows nowStrat wrote:I love the 95 tour.
