I've always found "Satan's Bed" to be one of PJ's darkest and angriest songs. It's a more extreme, unhinged version of "Not for You", in away - railing against what they see as oppressive forces. Rejecting their temptations. Spitting in their faces. It's wild and intense and genuinely, palpably outraged. Having a playful element - a level of caustic humor - does not negate this. In fact, I think it makes it more potent.

The second Eddie utters "I'll never suck Satan's dick!" any chance of me taking this song seriously is totally gone

That's entirely on you and says nothing about the song.
Oceans is fine ggahh! I like it it just feels like an incomplete song, it comes and goes. It works in the context of an album, not so much played by itself.
mjd, some of these songs that you are calling "filler" have you looked at their "Song of the moment" threads on here? I think you will find that you and your opinion on a lot of these songs are in the minority as far as how good or bad you think they are.

I know people like Oceans, I dont think the others are wildly popular as far as I can tell.
The issue here isn't even whether you like or dislike certain songs or anything like that, mjd. It's that you state these opinions based entirely on loose "feelings," offer very little in the way of substantial critique or explanation, then act indignant at the thought that anyone could disagree with you, even though we barely understand what you're trying to argue in the first place.

I thought "Garden" and "Deep" were fairly regarded as the two least popular songs on Ten, again which is why they almost never play them. If you disagree defend it. Do you not find Whipping to be fairly generic compared to the rest of the album?

Corduroy is probably the most "generic" sounding song on Vitalogy.
