this song is wonderful. Best song on either Riot Act or Binaural

I get all the criticisms of this song but I like it. It's kind of a musically lunkheaded song (Eddie's little riff is hilariously dumb) but the chorus is pretty.

I really do love this song, though. The lyrics and the melody are great, and I find the combo of the weariness of Ed's performance with the optimism inherent in that last chorus to be very powerful.

LBC also has dumb lyrics (though not quite as dumb) but LBC has a great build which I really enjoyLoathedVermin72 wrote:This is a good song. Much better than LBC.

I don't think IAM has dumb lyrics. I get what you mean about not liking "Intellectual Eddie," but I think there's a raw, earnest honesty to his intellectualism that I often find disarming and endearing. IAM definitely has that.mikejasond wrote:LBC also has dumb lyrics (though not quite as dumb) but LBC has a great build which I really enjoyLoathedVermin72 wrote:This is a good song. I used to like LBC a lot but lately it hasn't been doing it for me musically.

Re: Song of the Moment: I am Mine
LBC is one of the only songs on Binaural/Riot Act that actually grows and builds and goes somewhere. Im a fan of it because of that. I just hate the Beatles reference, I think things like that are corny. I hate when Bon Jovi references Frank Sinatra in Its My Life. I just hate stuff like that. I like when songs stand alone without referencing other songs. But that part with "Hooooold meeee and make out the truuuuth", it is really soaring, and I love it. Just not the lyrics.LoathedVermin72 wrote:I don't think IAM has dumb lyrics. Better songs on Binaural:
Breakerfall
Evacuation
NAIS
Thin Air
Insignificance
Of the Girl
Grievance
Rival
Sleight of Hand
Parting Ways
Better songs on Riot Act:
Can't Keep
Save You
Cropduster
You Are
Help Help
1/2 Full
All or None
And I might like LBC and Bu$hleaguer better too.

It's clear that you really love straightforward build-up-and-crescendo arcs in songs. Which is totally fine; those are common for a reason. It's a very simple way to be successful and stirring, and I don't mean that in a bad way.mikejasond wrote:LBC is one of the only songs on Binaural/Riot Act that actually grows and builds and goes somewhere. But I don't think the Binaural/RA era was about that kind of conventional catharsis. It was much more inward and exploratory.

Sometimes that works for me. For example, Can't Keep is awesome. But it doesn't work for me in the majority of them.LoathedVermin72 wrote:It's clear that you really love straightforward build-up-and-crescendo arcs in songs.
