Re: Atlanta Braves
Wow, was not expecting a sweep. I know it's only two weeks in but the Braves look really, really good this season.
Evan Gattis signed with Texas A&M. He never played and left the game for a while. He picked up drugs and got into a wandering period there for a while, not that different from Josh Hamilton's story. Then he got himself back together and the Braves drafted him in 2010 in the 23rd round. He's a corner outfielder by nature but his hitting is what caught people's attention. He had huge winter league numbers and kept hitting in the spring. The Braves' outfield is set for a few seasons as is first base. They are trying to convert him to a catcher but defensively it's charitable to say he's a work in progress. It will be interesting to see what they do with him but it's awfully tough to sit a stick like that.

That's first part is so 5-10 years ago. They've been drawing good crowds the past few seasons.verb_to_trust wrote:well they don't go to Turner Field so they have to be somewhere, right?....Who is this Gattis guy?

This team is rockin' right now. Seriously considered taking the afternoon off & going to the game.

Everytime I see Francisco wearing 25 I think it's Fat Andruw Jones back and playing 3rd base.

i do like strasburg, but i think you are right, he came in with all the hype and for the most part i think he lived up to it, but he isnt the best pitcher in Baseball by any means, though he could be on the way to it.Electromatic wrote:Dr. Van Nostrand wrote:10 in a rowand my buddy who is a Nats fan was sure they were gonna beat up on the Braves over the weekend
#natitudeStrasburg is the most overrated pitcher in baseball.

Ugh, after a mixed forecast turned out to be a beautiful afternoon for day baseball. Should have committed when I had the chance.Biff Pocoroba wrote: Seriously considered taking the afternoon off & going to the game.

Re: Atlanta Braves
Well we all thought this team would be streaky. Normally a trip to Colorado would wake up the bats but the forecast there the next couple days is not baseball friendly.

Heckuva home stand. While they continue to run hot & cold when the Braves are hot they're a fun, exciting team to watch.

Nice to see BJ Upton get a couple of big hits this weekend.
What would you guys like to see the Braves to with Beachy?
I am interviewing Jeff Passan this week. Let me know if you have any Braves questions you want answered.

Re: Atlanta Braves
I'd like to see them take it very slow with Beachy. Get him ready at Triple A for a while, strengthen that arm. Plenty of rest. Work him in maybe for a start in the majors and then if there is an injury or someone needs a DL stint bring him up. We don't know what to expect from him yet coming back from surgery. It obviously won't be a 6 man rotation, they may be forced to move someone maybe even Beachy may have to take a long relief bullpen role this season.

Re: Atlanta Braves
I'd say the Jordan Walden/Tommy Hanson trade has worked out pretty well for us so far.

Re: Atlanta Braves
Yeay Freddie Freeman! With all the Puig hype (agreed somewhat deserved) I didn't think he had a chance in the fan vote.
I met Freeman in the Atlanta airport after his rookie call-up. He was surprised anybody recognized him. Probably a little more used to it now.
