Changing the subject: does anyone actually believe that the Iron Throne and whose butt sits on it will matter much to the endgame of the series at all? The more and more I think about it (and this idea isn't totally original to me, it's more like an amalgamation of many threads picked up from many theories), the more I'm convinced that Westeros and the Seven Kingdoms will be unrecognizable when the dust clears, and that all the ink that's been spilled over who has the right to the throne, who has the best claim to the throne, etc. will have been wasted, since there won't be a throne to sit on or a kingdom to rule in the end. Thoughts?

I wouldn't be surprised if the seven kingdoms became seven true kingdoms again.

Not sure. It is centrally located between the Riverlands, the Vale, and the North, so it could come to play in some sort of future major battle.

Can someone refresh me on what's gone on recently on the nearby mainland? I know Littlefinger just went back to The Vale, and I know what's going on at King's Landing, but how about in the countryside in between? War? Happy people?

Well if the Blackfish wins, then he holds a large swath of land and would likely support any Jon/Sansa-lead battle in his neighborhood. I'm less clear on what the Freys would do with any power they might yield. Probably just sell it to the highest bidder.

Narratively-speaking, yes, that's what they have stated. But I'm not sure I trust their fealty to anyone other than themselves, and neither the Lannisters nor the Boltons may still be standing if/when Riverrun came into play.

I'd be on board with this if it was a deus ex machina that came out of fucking nowhere--if it either went against the logic of the universe or was played just for shock value; like, say, a fan theory like (yes, this is an actual theory) the Faceless Man training Arya turns out to be Ned Stark (because a Faceless Man was hired to take Ned's place at the execution and he's been secretly training in Braavos ever since, obviously). But when it comes to Jon's resurrection, the show has spent five seasons slowly and carefully setting this up, getting all of the right pieces into place, so it wasn't meant to be a surprise or a plot twist. What matters for Jon, obviously, is what happens next, not so much the fact that he came back from the dead in a fire god ceremony (that matters more for Melisandre's arc).

I think we will end up with a Stark back in Winterfell and a Targaryen* in King's Landing. I'm much less sure about Dorne, the Riverlands, the Reach, the Iron Islands, and the Vale.
