Ive only listened in my car and I'm pleased with the production on this. waiting for the LP to play on my system. You know when the drums kick in on pyramid song? I can tell this album won't sound as crisp and rad as that when i first play my vinyl copy..

also I haven't read 45 pages, but I find it frustrating the track listing is in alphabetical order, as daydreaming doesn't work as track 2. this makes me feel like the album needs re-tracking which stresses me out..

I agree that the end of burn the witch to daydreaming doesn't really work but I think they have changed the titles to fit the order they wanted rather than change the order to fit the titles.

Well of course. I actually think Burn The Witch into Daydreaming works really well to set up this album.

Initially I thought that sequencing was weird but it sounds very natural now. Burn The Witch wouldn't really fit in anywhere else either.

I remember Thom wanting to release 1 track a month over the course of a year and letting the listener arrange them however they wanted since they were going to do that anyway. This was before In Rainbows, I think. Anyway, this kind of thing just seemed like a small extension of that idea. Just release a handful of songs, put them in alphabetical order and let people do what they want with them. It's a sort of half measure.

But the flow of the album didn't bother me one bit. There's one song in the second half that has a strange start but I'm not sure it would sound more appropriate or better in any other place on the record.

Has bodysnatcher mistakenly posted in here yet because he thought the thread title was "A Moon Shaped Poo"?

Perfect opener but maybe not the perfect second track. I reckon the build up at the end of burn the witch could lead into something a little more punchy.

A Moon Shaped Pool may just be superior in every way other than the transition from track one to track two.

I don't know why we would even compare the two records. I don't know why I'm about to type this post. We are referencing each album's use of the aurally juxtaposed opening tracks? Quiet>loud vs. loud>quiet, yeah? I don't think there's much connection to be made there. "Daydreaming" isn't all that quiet anyway. It's full of noise from beginning to end. It's a barrage of swelling strings and accentuated background notes. One of the best features of "Sometimes" is the use of silence or dead air to make it feel like you're sitting in a confined space listening to a song at low volume and still being captivated by it. I'm not going to bother comparing "Burn the Witch" and "Hail Hail", let alone the rest of these records.

But these are both great records, and I'm glad you love AMSP. I get quite passionate when it comes to No Code, so I'm sorry if my post seems dismissive or belittling. I'm not trying to be.

I'm not comparing them as much as I'm saying that No Code is the superior record.
