Name one imperfect record

Post by zeb »

I'd change that weird squink in Fourth of July but other than that Superunknown is a perfect record.

Was in a band that had a song called Imperfect. And it was. Should have been instrumental. Fucking idiots.

I always thought Pavement's Wowee Zowee was perfectly imperfect.

zeb, to try and answer your question in the way I think you asked it: it took me a long time to warm to the two tracks on "Magnolia Electric Co." where J-Mo doesn't sing lead vocals, but I've grown to accept them, in a way. But when I heard the J-Mo vocal versions on the demo disc, I was all like "Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck! He should have stuck to his own vocals, and then I think it woulda been a perfect record."

Old Black Hen would actually benefit quite a bit if "bad luck lullaby" wasn't repeated 4 dozen times...other than that I think that's a pretty good tune.

And for my 1 imperfect record...I don't like the bassline in "Lily, Rosemary, and the Jack of Hearts". Blood on the Tracks. Close to perfect, but no cigarerro.

Man, I love "Old Black Hen"; the Scout Niblett track I'm less keen on, even if it is named after my hometown (presuming he's not talking about Arizona).

I really do like it, but find myself thinking that phrase is repeated too many times. Good song that could be better in my opinion.

what exactly defines an imperfect record? one that sucks all-around? one that is a detail or two, or song or two from being perfect? or are we just listing 99% of the records ever made?

I'd like to hear about albums that are only one small step away from being perfect.

I've never understood why they chose "The Crunge" over the actual title track for this album, which is infinitely superior and fits the album better than "The Crunge" does. Even if you argue that "The Crunge" fits the album better, it's still one of the worst songs on their first 6 albums.

I also don't understand why they chose and conceived cover art that is borderline pedophilia. I mean, it's Led Zeppelin...but still...
