Re: Song of the Moment: Spin the Black Circle
I like the song plenty, it's just never been top-tier material for me. I like songs with little compositional variation that start off on a low flame like this and just gradually get hotter ("Cold Confession" is another good one), and I agree that the performance and middle section are both great.
"Spin the Black Circle" just kicks ass though -- wicked riff, totally off-the-rails vocal performance, the whole works. LV's description of it a little ways up is spot on.

Loved it upon release back in the day. Hated to hear Jack's drumming on it and only marginally enjoy Matt's drumming on it more than Jack's. A good rocker, but just don't enjoy it live that much anymore.
Let me tell you, Homer Simpson is cock of nothing!

Re: Song of the Moment: Spin the Black Circle
I kinda get this. But the version on Vitalogy is just one performance of the song. The song exists outside of Vitalogy, it's still STBC when PJ plays it even in 2016. If you want to avoid discussion of the song in a live setting I think the thread would maybe need to be more specific, something like "Recording/Performance of a Song of the Moment: Spin the Black Circle (Vitalogy)."LoathedVermin72 wrote:I hate live discussion in song threads

But the studio version is the controlled environment version of the song. It's what the band wanted the song to sound like when they were composing it. It's more than just one performance of many.

Re: Song of the Moment: Spin the Black Circle
The only logical solution to this conundrum is for one of the mods to make seperate "Live SOTM" threads for the live forum. Seems like something Stip would really enjoy. You up for this, big guy? I'd really like a clear, constitutional procedure for discussing my favorite live versions of some PJ jamz.

That might require a sub- sub-forum

Re: Song of the Moment: Spin the Black Circle
Would it be possible to create sub-sub-forums for each song, and then within each sub-sub-forum, have threads for each individual live performance? For instance, I'm envisioning the pathway looking something like this:
Watched From the Window > Live > Go > St Louis 10/11/00
Surely there's some sort of copy/paste feature that would allow this to be done in < 5min or so.
Watched From the Window > Live > Go > St Louis 10/11/00

Genius idea if you just add this:Kevin Davis wrote:Would it be possible to create sub-sub-forums for each song, and then within each sub-sub-forum, have threads for each individual live performance? For instance, I'm envisioning the pathway looking something like this:

I'd be open to having threads for discussion of each song in a live setting, but not individual threads for each performance of the song. I hope he was being ridiculous on purpose.

Come on, it can't be that hard. Stip does all those tournaments. No way he'd do those if he had to create all those threads manually, is there?E.H. Yes he does. He created them ahead of time in the mod forum then moved them at the appropriate time. God the mod forum sucked when he did thatKevin Davis wrote:Come on, it can't be that hard.
