Does he even know where this forum is?
Recommend him some Neil Young, he might get some of the influences for Pearl Jam.

Yeah, I'm gonna need some context for a real recommendation. Besides that fact that his Pearl Jam tastes are terrible and backward, I don't know anything about what he listens to/likes.

He likes Guns N Roses and Meat Loaf. We need to start from the beginning here.durdencommatyler wrote:Yeah, I'm gonna need some context for a real recommendation. Besides that fact that his Pearl Jam tastes are terrible and backward, I don't know anything about what he listens to/likes.

Welp, MJD you need to pick up Fleetwood Mac's Rumours.
Let's start there.

In all honesty, something that influenced PJ, then expand out from there. Neil Young, The Ramones, or just go left field and recommend Sigur Ros or something.

Fleetwood Mac is really good. Ive never listened to Quadrophenia but I know a lot of the Who and think Love Reign Oer Me is great.

As for Neil Young I know his various hits...
Maybe some of that is through PJ...
Looking at 'Neil young songs' on google I know For what its worth (great song), Rockin in the Free World, Harvest Moon, Southern Man...I think Down by the river.
This is why Fuckin up was such a surprise to me because its awesome and not like those songs at all lol

Springsteen I know Born to Run (and really like it) but don't like anything else Ive heard from him (Dancing in the dark, Born in the USA, Hungry Heart, My Hometown)LoathedVermin72 wrote:Are you familiar with Bruce Springsteen and David Bowie already?
David Bowie I know a lot. Love Ziggy Stardust, and Under Pressure (kind of counts). Space Oddity is a classic but can't say it's one of my favorites. I like it. Don't care much for Let's Dance, Rebel Rebel, Changes, Suffragette City). I know I've heard Moonage Daydream but can't remember how it goes. Wasn't it in Guardians of the Galaxy?

Okay, I'm gonna give you my first official listening recommendation. I'm genuinely curious to hear your thoughts.
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - Let Love In (The album, not just the song.)

Just a warning, it sometimes takes me a while to appreciate music <_<
It's hard for me to really like a song the first time until I become more familiar with it. Occasionally it does happen (One example: Foreplay/Long Time by Boston) but it sort of goes by me the first time sometimes until I hear it a couple times and it sinks in more.
But I will give it a shot

I definitely accept that you might not like it on first listen, or ever. But I'm excited for you to try.mikejasond wrote:Just a warning, it sometimes takes me a while to appreciate music <_<

Re: RM Recommends Music to MJD
I just think my reaction might be a bit flat. It takes a lot of times for me to work up the love or hate for a song. I hate Binaural/Riot Act because Im invested in the band and can compare it to their other work. I find it hard to compare a random song to all of music though. Unless its especially good or especially bad.
And sometimes I hate a song and then end up loving it (Hunger Strike). Or sometimes I hear a song and Im like eh and then I end up LOVING it. I didn't think anything of Elderly Woman or Corduroy the first time. Now they are definitely in my top 5.
Or sometimes I love a song and then end up hating it. I cant think of a PJ example right now but there must be one out there. Oh I liked MYM at first before turning on it completely.
Anyways listening to Nick Cave and the Bad seeds: Let Love In
Do You Love Me: Pretty interesting song. It builds in an interesting way to the chorus. I like the chorus. The methodical plodding pace is pretty cool. Some good intensity. Its cool. I dunno if it needed to be six minutes long but it was enjoyable.

One song I heard for the first time recently and instantly loved was Fall to Pieces by Velvet Revolver. Maybe its a Slash thing. That guy can make a guitar sing.
Anyways Ill listen to more of this album in a second
