It's basically a guy speaking loudly and authoritative for 10 minutes or so about why it's "proven" that pop music / new music is dumber than it once was. His approach is like a TMZ reporter or something, so, you do kinda want to punch him.

He has some valid points about the loudness being backed into the song, ruining the dynamics, and how it's the same few producers / song writers that churn out the hit machines.

The other day I pulled up next to a motorcycle at a stop light. Had a guy driving and girl on the back. They were blaring a song that sounded like Nickleback but could have been one of any of those bands that sound like that. They were both bobbing their heads in enjoyment.

Among that guy's brilliant insights,
1- Pop music is like junk food,
2- Pink Floyd are deeper than Nicki Minaj,
3- Kanye has no talent because he can't sing like Freddie Mercury,
4- DJs are not musicians,
5- Today's movies and TV are "infinitely more complex and nuanced" than the movies and TV shows of the 70s and 80s (?!?!?!)
6- Rihanna is bad but the Foo Fighters are good

You said rock n roll is dead and you can't name one good band that started in the past 10 years. You said kids these days rather listen to pop and rap. I dont think any of those are indicators that "rock is dead"

rock's not dead, it's just not in the crosshairs of pop culture. for now. things go in cycles.

The implication was that rock is dead as a cultural item. It's still technically alive but, as I said, it has become niche. And that doesn't seem to be very conducive to good rock music. At least as far as my tastes are concerned. All the indie stuff you're talking about does very little for me.
