Exciting to hear they've new music coming. Such an outstanding live act.
They played before pj at a festival in Europe a couple of years ago. No idea why I didn't go to that.

I maintain The Suburbs is a modern masterpiece.

Arcade Fire were absolutely brilliant. Pearl Jam was quite honestly the worst gig I've seen them play to date.

Re: Arcade Fire
Eddie was drunk and was hurried to get backstage and party with Josh Homme & Dave Grohl (Them Crooked Vultures played before Arcade Fire). It took me till the Amsterdam shows last year to get over that disappointment.dimejinky99 wrote:They bottled it having to go on after arcade fire. I would too.
Anyhow, new Arcade Fire, yay!

I am, like, on board with this to an extent, but I can't help feel that it runs a bit long; 1 or 2 of these songs probably shoulda been b-sides.Bob Loblaw wrote:I maintain The Suburbs is a modern masterpiece.

Re: Arcade Fire
one of these days i really hope to really see them live, they were at bonnaroo the first year we were there, but the crowd for the main stage was rediculous and we couldnt get to a place where we were packed in, even at the farthest back part of the field, so we headed back to camp and listened to the show from there, they sounded amazing, and ive wanted to see them again ever since. hopefully the tour after the album comes out brings them close to here.

I'm predicting a serious alarming left turn. Everything else they've done has followed a similar pattern, apart from Neon Bible. I'd say its gonna be the yin to Neon Bibles yang.
This is where this band goes commercial. A la kings of Leon.
I hope not but we'll see.

You make it sound like Neon Bible accounts for a tiny part of their catalog. They have 3 albums! Neon Bible is 33% of everything they have!dimejinky99 wrote:Everything else they've done has followed a similar pattern, apart from Neon Bible.

Re: Arcade Fire
should be interesting to see what happens, especially in response to their surprising win for "album of the year" at the Grammys a few years back. not that that means (or should mean) anything, but curious to see if there's any influence, or some sort of expectation they put on themselvesdimejinky99 wrote:I'm predicting a serious alarming left turn. Re: Arcade Fire
Peter Cut Up Half Dead is right. Neon Bible is hardly a huge departure from their sound. Every album has had a distinct sound. The Suburbs sounds nothing like Funeral and vice versa. But there's an Arcade Fireyness to all of them. I for one think that this band won't do a Kings of Leon; they've too much integrity to do that. Kings of Leon showed signs of being obsessed with their success from square one.cutuphalfdead wrote:You make it sound like Neon Bible accounts for a tiny part of their catalog. They have 3 albums! Agreed. The only thing that stops TS being a classic is the length of it.Simple Torture wrote:I am, like, on board with this to an extent, but I can't help feel that it runs a bit long; 1 or 2 of these songs probably shoulda been b-sides.Bob Loblaw wrote:I maintain The Suburbs is a modern masterpiece.

Re: Arcade Fire
The Suburbs feels like the White Album to me; maybe there's some stuff that could get cut, but I wouldn't want to. The length and breadth of the album helps it even when it stumbles.
One of the best records of the past few years, easily, to me. I'd also say it's my favorite Arcade Fire record.

It's still on regular rotation 3 years for me after it came out and I would say it's my favorite as well. I love all three though.Monkey_Driven wrote:My favorite as well.digster wrote:The Suburbs feels like the White Album to me; maybe there's some stuff that could get cut, but I wouldn't want to.
