I have 'Room' up next. What does RM think of the film?

Recently watched:

Terminator Genisys - talked about it in the thread for it.

Sisters - Dumb fun. 3 stars out of 5. A few LOL moments.

Creed - Like the Terminator, I'm a sucker for a Rocky flick. I was pleasantly surprised. Was glad to see two Wire album in the film. I was in a good mood when I watched it, so 4 of 5 stars.

Inside Out - This one was sad. I expected it to be a little more light hearted, but they really kept piling on the sadness. It's a kids movie, so it had a happy ending, but it was a solid hour plus of sadness being piled on. It made me think a lot of my daughter growing up as the film hit on things that parents will want to hold on to and get all nostalgic about. Overall, this was a fine Pixar movie, 4 of 5 stars.

The Argonaut wrote:Digging for Fire is wonderful, just a beautiful movie. Joe Swanberg is really something special. Happy Christmas and this one are just tops, and Drinking Buddies was good too. I've only seen one of his pre-Drinking-Buddies movies. I've got to dig into his catalogue more.
I'm glad you dug it, Argo. I really liked it too. Though, I'd say it was my least favorite of the three you mentioned, it was still such a wonderful little film. I was lucky enough to see it I IFC and Swanberg and Jake Johnson and the cinematographer did a talk back at the end of the film, which was super enlightening, and made me appreciate the movie even more.

The camera movement and the tension it created wasn't something I was conscious of as I watched but hearing them talk about those choices what they were aiming for really opened the thing up for me.

Room is a wonderful film. Much better than Spotlight (which, obviously won best picture).

Some of the music choices were over the top and Spielberg-y (by which I mean obvious and manipulative). But overall it's a well made movie with fantastic performances. Some wonderful themes, some brutal truths. It'll hit you right where it should, for sure.

I loved it.

I put that low blow shot at Spielberg in there just for you, just so you'd post the gif. I'm so bummed that you didn't actually post it.

I just do a Google search for "rage gif" and it's on the first page, usually in the third row of images.

The only part in Room where the music felt inappropriate to me was at the very end. I also felt at times like the filmmakers didn't really know what story they wanted to tell after they got out -- felt like it was pulled along in several directions but never quite settled on one.

It's annoying to try to do stuff like that at work because of security filters, so I always try to find an old RM post to get a link from and never can.

Agree on the inappropriate music at the end. And, yeah, that was really the only problem I had with the music.

I think that feeling after they are out was intentional. It didn't feel like it was a filmmaker uncertain about the film's direction as it did a choice to illustrate how the characters were feeling pulled along in several different directions. I thought it was a tonal/stylistic choice.
