Re: Daft Punk l Random Access Memories l 21 May
Had a phone discussion with my brother about this album. He loves it. I think it's pretty meh. It's not really my thing. Anyway, he says, "Daft Punk is the most innovative band of our generation."
Me: "Um, Radiohead?"
"Yeah, even more than them."
Thoughts on this?

They're infinitely more fun and better at recreating(in this instance) an existing format, than radiohead will ever be.

Radiohead stole a whole genres bells and whistles.
Are they 'innovators'?
Hardly.

Innovation is hardly a term known for its pinpoint specificity, when pop music is the topic of interest. It's a field that thrives on incremental adaptations.dimejinky99 wrote:Radiohead stole a whole genres bells and whistles.

I think that what I'm getting at is that when "OK Computer" and "Kid A" came out, the common consensus among critics was that this was the future of rock n roll, the most inventive, the bench mark etc. LIke Radiohead were & are the poster boys for progressive music. Meaning, if you say "progressive rock n roll" you think of Radiohead first. Not like it matters because they're both progressive groups

And this is why one should never use the "go to last post" feature from the board index. Now I'm left forever wondering what's more shocking, the fact that some people consider Daft Punk to be progressive/innovative or your use of the term progressive rock n roll.Harry Lime wrote:I think that what I'm getting at is that when "OK Computer" and "Kid A" came out, the common consensus among critics was that this was the future of rock n roll, the most inventive, the bench mark etc. LIke Radiohead were & are the poster boys for progressive music.
