I just finished watching this mess. I'm actually glad this season wasn't redeemed at all with that finale.

It was a mess.

But I think I'm more in camp digster. It was a dramatic drop in overall quality from S1, for sure. But there were things to like about it. It was far from the absolute abortion some are painting it as.

I thought McAdams killed it. She was outstanding through out. The direction/cinematography of the early episodes was inspiring. When the show let itself off the noir leash a bit, that's when it got really interesting. It needed more humor.

The finale itself was way too long. But, again, I think there were things to like about it. Had it been a 60 min pilot episode it would have been brilliant. But honestly, I think the more interesting show would be McAdams and Vince's wife on the run in South America juxtaposed to the reporter and the story blowing up in the US.

I guess, what I'm saying is, the direct sequel to this season could be super great. It's too bad we spent 8+ hours on a convoluted and often contrived prologue to something we'll never get to see.

Also, look, I love Taylor Kitsch. I really do. But why was Woodrugh even in this thing? He added absolutely zero to the season. I think. Or maybe he did I just couldn't follow the story. That's this season's biggest issue: a story that was impossible to follow especially while being led by characters that I wanted to care more about.

The show could have been great with a simplified plot and only Frank and Ani as the mains.

Nick Pizzolato just tried to cram way too much into 8 hours.

Well, I watched ep 1 when it was released but then crammed ep's 2 - 8 2-a-day into the past few days. This certainly wasn't a scratch on season 1 but I generally quite enjoyed it.

I thought McAdams was really good, and I'm glad VV got it together after worrying that his character was for shit at about ep 3. In the end I enjoyed his portrayal of the bad-guy-gone-good-gone-bad-again.

I really enjoyed the cinematography in this season, some shots in particular were just fantastic. The juxtaposition of the 2 final deaths was great and I actually enjoyed the trick they came back to a few times of "partners" seemingly knowing when the other has died. What I liked was that when it occurred (when both Ray and Robocop died) the actual relationships were either forced or brand new. I like the idea that sometimes people feel things and that we perhaps are more connected than we think, even in such a shitty world.

And yeah, I loved Ray's incognito look at the end. Made me laugh.

Overall I'd give it a 6, so not the abortion in my book that most of you guys rate it as. I found a lot too enjoy, even after filtering for some poor dialogue and pausing often to try and figure out the overwhelming story line. It was fun.

I loved McAdam's line to the sister when she was putting her on the bus: "But what am I meant to do?"

"I don't know." And walks away.

One final note - I think my enjoyment of this season was assisted by binge-watching. I doubt I would have been so keen to stick with it waiting a week between eps. And I will admit to being stoned for the entire 8 1/2 hours of viewing, which no doubt helped too.

Bring on season 3.

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.
