The tournaments I like require the participants to actively pick their favorite episodes when assembling their teams, whereas this other type of tournament is based on anonymous voting, where you could chime in on the thread but you don't have to. It seems to me the former is a lot more conducive to rediscovery and discussion. Of course they're both completely pointless in the end.LoathedVermin72 wrote:I couldn't disagree with you more. I vastly prefer the passive enjoyment of this type of tournament, and I think it generates more interesting discussion. The other kind is too stressful for my taste, for many of the same reasons you like it. Also, they always seem utterly pointless in the end. Through tournaments like this, I (am often surprised to) learn which episodes/songs/whatever others like and why, and a consensus favorite is named, whereas in the other kind we wind up with a pointless victor that no one cares about.

I dare you to start a draft-based Simpsons tourney right nowtheplatypus wrote:The tournaments I like require the participants to actively pick their favorite episodes when assembling their teams, whereas this other type of tournament is based on anonymous voting, where you could chime in on the thread but you don't have to. I thought about going through and changing my vote over and over again to create/keep ties. You know, just to see what all the fuss is about. But I just don't care enough.E.H. Both kinds of tournaments are fun, by the way.

I agree with Jorge's conclusion, which I assume is: my Simpsons song tournament was the best thing ever on RM.

That was a failure when the best team was bounced in the first round.Simple Torture wrote:I agree with Jorge's conclusion, which I assume is: my Simpsons song tournament was the best thing ever on RM.

And then again when the only team better than the best team was bounced shortly thereafter.cutuphalfdead wrote:That was a failure when the best team was bounced in the first round.Simple Torture wrote:I agree with Jorge's conclusion, which I assume is: my Simpsons song tournament was the best thing ever on RM.

One of my favorite things about draft-style tournaments is the deep resentments they generate, and that we carry with us for the rest of our posting days

I can't figure out a way to post "yeah that makes perfect sense to me" without it coming off as mean. But, yeah that makes perfect sense to me.theplatypus wrote:One of my favorite things about draft-style tournaments is the deep resentments they generate, and that we carry with us for the rest of our posting days

Any tournament that takes fewer than 4 months to complete is not worth our time
