Late-career hit singles

Other than Pearl Jam, who else is there?

It's not a single but Led Zeppelin's Celebration Day has gone either gold or platinum just about everywhere. It's over 30 years since their last album.

"Kokomo" is a great example.

This Day in History

On June 27th, 2013, scientists recorded the first instance of the words "Kokomo" and "great" being mistakenly combined within a sentence on an internet message board. Although this was reportedly done without the intention of praising the song's quality, philosophers and historians have generally looked back at it in hindsight as the moment that Western Civilization began to crumble.

Little is known about the incident, and even the answer to who the mysterious "Kevin Davis" was has remained largely elusive. There was rampant initial speculation that the internet user was of African American lineage. This assumption is believed to have originated due to his avatar of choice. However, it was soon noted to have been discredited by the fact that he was familiar with the song Kokomo. This, combined with the location of the infamous declarative error (a message board for already-defunct wavecore pioneers Pearl Jam), has led most to assume that he was probably old, fat, and white.

The title track off The Rising was a fairly big hit.

Also, Elton John's The One was a pretty big hit from what I remember and Eric Clapton's Tears In Heaven.

Genesis had quite a few hits 22 years into their career on the We Can't Dance album. It had a few charting singles; I Can't Dance, Jesus He Know Me, Hold On My Heart, Never a Time.

R.E.M. had some good singles well past their 20 year mark

Kokomo and that Cher song could probably more accurately fall into the 'comeback' hit single category.

I checked the rising and it didn't really chart as high as you'd think.

True for the Billboard 100. It did receive a fair amount of radio play upon release from what I recall though I am in the Northeast. However, it was a true hit with the Grammy wins/nod though I'm not sure how we're scoring those.

I remember seeing The Rising on TV all the time. It may have been the first Springsteen song I ever heard.

Chart peak is a pretty poor measure of a song's success level. I Am Mine made it as high as it did almost exclusively on physical sales of the single by fans.
