Some people have the "I was drinking while I posted this" excuse.stip wrote:whoops--it was the 'I was drinking while I posted this' comment.
Let this be a lesson not to watch Elmo's world and post at the same time. it's a dangerous mix
Stip has "I was watching Elmo's world while I posted this."

Re: First Single from #10: Mind Your Manners
this is what parenthood does to you.
I was asked to give a safe sex talk/plug condom use talk in my classes. Rather than focus on diseases or shit like that I just told them how being a parent replaces everything you used to love with watching Elmo's world.

I was told by several people that it was the best safe sex talk they ever had.

The thing about safe sex is that it's just so, so worth it. Also, it's a good way to show a person you know how to mind your manners.

With respect to dct, I'm never quite sure what people mean when they say something sounds like the Beatles. Seems to me like it's usually just a roundabout way of saying something is especially tuneful.Birds in Hell wrote:I don't think it's particularly Beatles-esque at all.durdencommatyler wrote:You might be hard pressed to find anyone who doesn't agree that the song has a Beatles quality about it, or a Beatles aesthetic. I think it certainly does.
It's got a kind of soft-focus 60s pop vibe about it, but there's nothing I could specifically relate to any Beatles song (or even sound) about it.

There's a Paul McCartney feel to the bass line in the verse. The chorus also has a lovely walk down pattern and melody which is, in essence, just very 60s sounding.

Re: First Single from #10: Mind Your Manners
Everything about it: the finger-picked guitar style (not just the fact that it's finger-picked, but the fact that it's such a straightforward doo-doo-doo-doo finger picking, in a way that sounds more Beatles than Johnny Cash but is similar), the chord structure which I couldn't explain but I can hear; the changes are basically very similar to the changes I hear the Beatles making (the same criticism which has been made of Oasis time and time again), the lilting bassline, which sounds quite like the Thomas the Tank Engine theme (which itself sounds styled after the Beatles). The whimsical nature of the lyrics and the melody. I'm not saying that it's a bad thing that it takes a lot from the Beatles, but I think that's pretty hard to miss and it's not really my thing. I will acknowledge that it's a well-written song.
No offense, but it really winds me up when people say that a song's style can't be compared to another band's just because the song itself doesn't remind them of any particular song by that band. You can be Beatles-esque without having a song called Yellow Subwoofer.

Re: First Single from #10: Mind Your Manners
The only thing Beatle-esque about it is that it is melodic and has interesting chord changes. The guitar parts are nothing like the Beatles. The bass parts are nothing like the Beatles. There aren't any vocal harmonies. It's a generic description.
