C'mon, that scene where Vader appears for the first time, out of that smoke in A New Hope....that was frightening to me. The other one that sticks out is his integration of Leia.

i'm liking this movie less as time goes on. all of the rehashing and plot holes that i was able to overlook earlier, i'm not able to overlook them as easily now. had to change my vote (again).. dropping down to 'better than the prequels, not as good as the originals".

i'm almost at a point where i wish lucas was involved somehow.. at least to provide a basic outline of a story.

still looking forward to seeing where it all goes from here though.

That's been my vote since the beginning. I saw the film twice in theaters and once at home. I'm not feeling compelled to re-watch for awhile. I just don't "buy in" with Kylo Ren as a bad guy. He doesn't scare me like Vader did.

I hear ya. So I guess my point is this: Unlike the OT, there isn't a single character on either side who is very scary. Maybe Snoke was suppose to be it, but that didn't work for me in TFA.

That's true. Depending on how the story goes that will either be a (potentially correctable) limitation or unnecessary if this is really about a few character relationships against the background of a war

I think it's very correctable to make a character or two a bit more scary. Just need to push the PG-13 envelop a bit...maybe have one of the bad guys torture someone in a more realistic way - e.g., imagine if The First Order waterboarded a good guy into telling them the truth about something.

Well it's clearly alluded to that Poe has been tortured and didn't break and it takes Kylo to do it and get the info. Probably would go over kids heads the way it was done it's quite subtle.

I'd want to see them go with a more "Homeland" realistic approach to torture with the Force. Kill the background music/actor gasps for breath, type stuff. I think it's a cool concept and I think you could do it in a way that passes the PG-13 smell test.

Zootopia is giving it a run.

People I trust were raving about that film. I watched it and just no. Didn't work for me. Lego movie is the best movie in that field in living memory.

It's natural for any declining society to cling to conservative rememberances, repackaging them as though they were new and relevant cultural events.

But really they are very dumb.
